For car rental, I having been using VroomVroomVroom.com
I choose Alamo, although it is not stated but it comes with CDL, Theft protection and 3rd party liability and road side assistance. No need to pay anything up front. Free cancellation. After booking, just go to Alamo website with your booking reference to double check all the insurance are included.

But will they let me rent the car if I'm under 25?

If you select country of residence as Singapore, the rental will include basic liability coverage for the rental (depending on the specific US state, but include California ). Rates will be cheaper if you put US as residence coz no liability coverage is provided

If you use certain promo codes, you may have CDW/LDW added at no extra charge.

I've been looking at the link you provided, and I saw a clause that states airport counters won't allow people under 25 to rent a car... Is this true?

Others just pay extra fees daily

You can ask the car rental person for waiver of underage fee as well. Its pretty flexible and they don’t mind waiving quite frequently.

I need recommendation for San Francisco accommodation from 19-22 May for 6 people. Trying to search for AirBnB but the price does not come out cheap. Any recommendation for hotels near Union Square as we will be taking public transport.

Look up on websites like Priceline once in a while. Hotel price might drop nearer to the date.

Staying in San Francisco is expensive, especially if you want somewhere near Union Square. It would be cheaper if you stayed in the suburbs surrounding, and take the BART into San Francisco. I would recommend staying in Oakland, looking for a place near the BART Station.

San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities to live in. And since you are looking for 6 people, you should expect to pay top dollar to stay near union Square.

Basically, most places you look for in San Francisco will be expensive, you might want to try the Tenderloin district, but it is one of the less safe areas in San Francisco, considered more of a slum, so.....

Oakland is also one of the less safe places in Bay Area. I would recommend ts find somewhere around pacifica/Daly City/south sf instead if he want to commute in.

How many rooms do you need? It's going to be a lot cheaper if those people don't mind sharing rooms, obvs.

That said, I think you're going to have trouble bringing this in much under $200 USD per room per night. You might have a bit better luck out near SFO airport - I'm seeing the airport Holiday Inn coming in under $150 per room per night - but the commute from there will be an absolute *******. Did you have a price target in mind? If you can stretch to $250 USD per room per night, you're going to have a lot more options.

Thanks for all the reply. I can stretch to 250 USD/night. Does sharing room an issue with San Fran hotels? Are they strict on the policy of 2 ppl per room?

On my last day, I will need to fly out from OAK. Does it make sense to stay near OAK airport?
If so, probably, I can rent car on 21 May for a day trip nearby San Francisco, drive to Oakland airport for overnight stay

19-May: Landing at SFO
20-May: San Francisco
21-May: San Francisco or day trip?
22-May: Taking Southwest flight from Oakland airport to Houston (1pm flight)

I had booked for 1 person and had 5 ppl share before. 2 on each bed and 1 on the floor. Just go into the hotel yourself and have your friends come in later.

Wait, I meant, like, two people to a room, not six people in one room. You can probably sneak it in, sure, but it's going to be a bit miserable. Just book three rooms.

At that price, I see the Cornell Hotel on Tripadvisor - it's pretty central, small but cute, and rated pretty highly.

And if your flight's at 1pm, then no, there's no need to stay out near OAK; you can stay in San Francisco on the night of the 21st. Even if the traffic's horrific, which it won't be at that hour (11am is well after the morning rush), it shouldn't take you more than an hour to get from downtown to Oakland airport in a Lyft.

By right no, if don’t get caught it’s ok but it’s 10k fine if caught, do so at your own risk.

I used to bring back some every time when I go back sg. Then this one time, suddenly random baggage check for contraband items and I kena. When the person checking is checking, the bah ku teh seasoning I bought is on top of the ba kwa which was damn lucky. The person checking was totally misdirected by the bah ku teh because got meat picture. Then talk to her very long explaining no meat. She checked the ingredient list and let me go without going deeper into package.

I don’t bring any more meat products back after that. Not worth the risk.

reference itinerary

Hi All, I am thinking of doing a 2 weeks road trip in States (between June to Nov) and looking to end my trip inNew York (as the destination). Is there any itinerary or website that I can refer to that can provide me some idea on how I should go about planning my trip? I am looking to cover places like Grand Canyon,Niagara Falls and Yellowstone park etc. Not sure if I could cover these places based on geographic location as well as the limited time I have in States.

The US is really massive... Consider this, Niagara Falls is near the Canadian border, at the east coast, and Yellowstone National Park is nearer to the west coast. the west coast.

Early last year, I took a road trip with a few of my friends across the US, stopping for a day or two at each of the major cities. It took us 2 and a half months to cover all 49 states...

If you are doing it solo, I would sincerely recommend you take a plane, as driving in the US is a lot different from driving in Singapore, different traffic laws from each state, not to mention driving on the other side of the road.

2 weeks is a really short period of time, and considering you want to cover the national parks, it would be faster, albeit a little more expensive, to fly throughout the States.

Amazing race!
Yellowstone Park to really see it takes more than a good 3 days. I am going there again this time for like 5 days.

Even if u spend 2 days each place and hop to next I wonder what is your take away from the trip
