Hi folks, need help in my east coast trip in end March. Total days, excluding departure and arrival, is 11 days. Flying via JFK. main focus is shopping, the usual touristy place in NY, food (esp latest fad, or old time fav), white house visit, Niagara falls (says the wife). Muesums , not so, unless it's along the way. Any idea how should I build a high level itinerary around it? Been and stayed in the west coast but virgin east coast guy. How would you recommend ? TIA

11 days is going to go by faster than you think. I'd probably do:
* 4 days in NYC, maybe with a day trip to Niagara;
* 1 day to travel to DC (take the Acela train, it'll be a lot nicer than flying)
* 3 days in DC
* 3 days somewhere else.
I know you don't like museums, but I'm going to suggest a couple in DC anyway (it's not a shopping city, it's a history city). Swing by the Newseum, it's excellent; and if you have time to tour the Supreme Court or the Library of Congress, do those, they're 100% worth it.
If you actually want to
tour the White House, as opposed to just taking a selfie out the front, you're going to need to get in touch with the Singaporean embassy in DC pretty much straight away and ask them if they can help arrange it. Don't bank on it happening on such short notice.
You've got an extra three days or so, and it's going to be chilly that time of year, so I'd seriously recommend popping down to Miami for your "somewhere else" days. Stay in a little hotel on Miami Beach; go swimming; admire the art-deco architecture; drink a horrifically expensive cocktail out by the pool at the Delano...
