Any recommendation for Prepaid data sim to be used on Samsung s3?
Googled and found AT&T go phone sim....

AT&T's fine, but their GoPhone service doesn't allow data on "4G" phones (which I think will include the S3). You can always rock into a store when you get here and ask them; if they turn you down, you'll have to go to T-Mobile.

Hi All,

I am in the midst of planning my East US Trip.

A) What would you recommend to travel from NY to Niagara Falls?

I am thinking of the following option

1) Rent a car -> Drive to US Side and across to canda side, Stay for the night

2) Fly from JFK to Buffalo, than rent a car to cross to Canada side

My question is if it is worth to take a flight given the flight is 1.5hr vs Driving of 6-7 hrs.

Furthermore, checking in and out of airport plus travelling to JFK might take some time.

B) Driving from DC to Atlanta (going to the aquarium) is about 8-9 hours. Are there any nice stop points in between (rather than just gas stations)

C) Anyone been to Disney World? I am heading in Early Nov, i would assume the water parks are out due to cold weather. Would 2 days be enough for disney before i head to Universal?

Thank you all in advance

A) Driving would probably take a little longer by an hour or two. Might run into traffic and u got to stop for gas and food.
It will be more tiring as well.
But it might be cheaper especially if u are going to be renting a car in Buffalo as well.

Are u going to Toronto as well?
It is close to niagara falls about an hour or so.
Maybe u can consider flying to Toronto and renting a car from there.

C) Disney world consists of 3 parks, last i went, a long time ago. If u have been to Disneyland before , u can skip the disneyland part.
I think 2 days is enough, half day each for a park.

Nov is tail end of hurricane season.
It will still be warm in FL in nov.

Other than Orlando, u can rent a car and drive to the coasts of FL. The west side, facing the Gulf of mexico is usually calm and no waves. The eastern side, facing the Atlantic has big waves and more "ocean like".

If u can drive and can find a place to park, it might be better.
Parking can be hard to find in the university areas.

U District, where u washington is, isnt that safe at night so be careful.

Feel free to im me if u have questions about seattle.
Lived there a long time.

Oh didn't expect bus in Seattle to be that bad, I know they allow weed in that state so they're pretty.. Guess I shall either cycle or drive to school when I'm there

For niagara they have fireworks on Friday nights but you better check the calendar, not sure if it's on during winter months.

Disney World has 4 theme parks together. There are tickets that allow you to go between the theme parks on the same day. For me I went 1 theme park per day. Magic kingdom is very kiddy and we finished the rides quickly. However 1 day wasn't enough for me at Hollywood Studios :( Universal has more thrilling rides than Disney! Do bring a change of clothes as universal has rides that will get you drenched from head to toe.

For niagara, I went from Toronto. Only a short 1.5h drive from the city and stayed for 1 night there. Plenty of things to do, wished I stayed 2 nights.

thanks! Planning 2 days universal, 2 days Disney. Not sure if going magic kingdom as I've been to the one at Tokyo and LA. Read that animal planet is more like a zoo so not sure of that either

Haha please don't go to Magic Kingdom if there are no kids. Space mountain you should have already tried in other Disneylands. I've been to LA before that and there isn't the indiana jones ride in Orlando.

Didn't go animal planet as we were not interested in animals :s13: Hollywood studios is good. The american idol experience was interesting. Will actually be heading to Orlando again in June and will go to Epcot! There are fireworks at night for Disney.

Thank you for this! Will need to see if i can have time for Toronto.
On a second note, seems like renting a car from orlando and dropping at New York inccurs no drop off charges (according to priceline) while renting from NY and dropping at Oralando does.

Car rental:
There is a huge disparity in prices between the car rental companies as well as travel websites that sell the rentals.
Be sure to check around sites like expedia, orbitz, travelocity.
Rented a car for one day and the prices ranged from $14 to $140 for the cheapest economy car.

Check the car exterior carefully before taking it and also take photos of the car exterior just before returning it.
Recently, there were reports of car companies putting bogus charged on consumers for damaged cars.

Hi! I am also researching.
Will be taking a flight from JFK to Orlando (MCO) airport.

But i will be driving from orlando back to new york (with multiple stops)

For NY, any hotel you have seen?
I was thinking of times square but reading up, many suggested staying out of times square (close by) as transport is decent Times square is too crowded and expensive. Still sitting on the fence for this.

Some hotels have a shuttle bus that takes u from the airport to the hotel. Check with your hotel.

Car rental, shuttle bus and taxis are options as well.
Taxis are expensive but depending on the shuttle bus cost per person, might be cheaper to take a taxi.

Dont need a car in NYC as they have a decent subway system and plenty of taxis.

As mentioned, some have shuttle buses. Do check the time the last shuttle leaves. For my hotel the last shuttle is before the fireworks timing so we never got to watch :(

Too many tips for NY alr, perhaps you can look thru this long thread.

First time I stayed in New Jersey (Westin Jersey City Newport). Excellent hotel and near to train station to connect to NY.

This June will be staying at TRYP in times square, managed to get a decent price.

Any recommendation for Prepaid data sim to be used on Samsung s3?
Googled and found AT&T go phone sim....

Not sure if its good

I use straight talk by Walmart for prepaid

Negative points:
Have to buy SIM card for about $20 USD
Can only buy SIM card online, Walmart doesnt stock these SIM cards, they only stock their prepaid phones that come with the SIM card, and the top up
cards.
If you buy SIM card online, the straighttalk website only accepts US credit card (not sure if this changed). I got mine from ebay seller
Minimum is USD$30 plan, minimum 30days.

Good points:
Unlimited SMS (USD$45 plan)
Unlimited local voice (USD$45 plan)
Unlimited International Land line calls (for USD$60 plan)
Unlimited data (USD$45 plan)
Works perfectly with our phones, can go 2G, 3G, and H+, runs on AT&T network
Once you stop paying for the monthly service, your SIM card goes inactive. BUT i just found out, it might be possible to reactivate it again by just purchasing a new prepaid plan. Number might change, but can reuse the SIM card. Gonna try this May

Your hotel should have shuttle, if not you can take those paid shuttle service. It depends on your location, you could be the first to drop or last to drop and it ain't cheap also, about 20 per pax I think.

As for travelling in NY with luggage, some of the stations have no escalators/lifts. But I guess you can help to carry your female counterpart's luggage. I had a backpack and carry luggage for my gf then. Other than that quite okay.

I am thinking of the following option

1) Rent a car -> Drive to US Side and across to canda side, Stay for the night

Fly via Toronto. That drive is going to be boring as hell, but Toronto's good fun. (Also, pro tip: fly Porter Airlines. They fly to the Toronto downtown airport, instead of Toronto International which is out in the @rse end of nowhere.)

B) Driving from DC to Atlanta (going to the aquarium) is about 8-9 hours. Are there any nice stop points in between (rather than just gas stations)

Yes - North Carolina around Raleigh/Durham and Chapel Hill are good places to stop for a night. They're all college towns, so you can bank on lots of good restaurants and pubs.

That's a hell of a long drive just for an aquarium, though, and Atlanta doesn't really have that much to recommend it otherwise (except for a thriving African-American gay scene... or so I'm told. Ahem). If you want Southern flavour, try New Orleans or Miami (and Key West) instead; driving two days for an aquarium seems like a waste of a holiday.

Anybody can comment if Woodbury Premium outlets are still worth going if I'm already going to Vegas and Orlando ones?
