I'd do two nights in Yosemite rather than Mammoth Lakes. Don't forget you can't do this route until the Tioga Pass opens (which will be sometime between mid-May and early June).
Unfortunately our schedule (and parents on the trip) dictate a need to go an alternate route... in fact I don't think we'll be able to hit Yosemite at all
This is our proposed trip, with pit stops @ Mammoth Lake and subsequently Napa Valley. From Napa I would head to SF, Santa Cruz, Sausalito and Monterey

Alternatively, to fit in Yosemite I'll have to head West towards Bakersfield and then hit Yosemite. Once done with Yosemite, I'll do Santa Cruz, Monterey then hit SF, Napa Valley and Sausalito
Google Maps (2nd Option)
Either trip results in a 6 hour drive... do you still suggest Yosemite instead of Mammoth? Would have thought that Mammoth had things to see too..
