Don't forget fees for domestic checked bags, if applicable. If you book on the same ticket, and the flight is part of an international itinerary, then no checked bag fee (ie UA throughout on same ticket).

Lucky JetBlue has 1st free check bags, 2nd its usd$50!
It's kinda trouble to check in and out imho

Yes, check in and check out is rather troublesome. Especially if the other option will let you skip security (at least when coming back to SG). Also, if you are kiasu and book the flights with plenty of time in between, some airlines do not allow you to check in too early, and you might have to wait with all your bags landside, which might not have much shops for US airports.

Can't say much because I've only been to Hollywood which sucks, tourist trap but I guess ok to do 1 night there to see-see. Stayed at the Hollywood Orchid Suites, very basic but ok-price and convenient.

Public transport in LA is the worst thing ever.

LA with suburbs is size of several Singapores combined. Where exactly in LA?

Traffic there is horrendus, been there just last week. My recommendation is to stay closely to the sites/business you plan to visit/go, unless it involves downtown and similar areas because it is simply not safe there.

Santa Monica is always a good option but again - depends where you want to go.

Where would you recommend? Open to suggestions!

Want to learn wine culture and if u there on Friday or Sunday get to catch fire works. What u like to do?

If u wish to get to know about Ice wine and nice limited edition whiskey I can suggest something places to visit. Niagara winery region has lots of good Makan place. That region also most famous in Canada growing American ginseng.

1.5 day in niagara region is sufficent.

If u want to go toronto ok. Montreal is like 2-3 day old Quebec is like 2 days
March end nyc and niagara high is like 5c to 10c, so dress well.

Used to sg weather coming up north to Midwest such temp is nothing out of the ordinary. -20c high is not that bad. If u lucky u may catch some snow in niagara. Romantic to drink ice wine by the fire and enjoy the white view

They're all pretty much fine. I like Hertz, because they have a big range of hot metal (Porsches! AMG Mercs!); some others recommend going through the aggregators. Really it's mostly the same.

Any kind souls can help?? :)

Your itinerary's mostly guided tours, so I'm not sure there's a lot we can help you with.

Hi US gurus, my wife and I are heading to NYC end of this month.

Any suggestions on a driving trip to Canada? Will 3 nights suffice? Thanks.

First tip, brace yourself: it's been a brutally cold winter on the east coast and in the middle bits. I was in Chicago for a couple of days in February and the maximum was -15 Celsius.

So now that's out of the way... yeah, 3 nights is probably plenty. Do Montreal or Quebec City, though; Toronto is boring.

Fly to your destination (NYC to Montreal is a solid six-hour drive, and god help you if there's snow), and then cruise around the city at your leisure.

Where in LA? Greater Los Angeles is about three times the size of Singapore, so saying "any recommendations in LA?" is like saying "any recommendations in Singapore or Johor?". Driving from downtown LA to Santa Monica - which look like they're right next to each other on the map! - is the equivalent of driving from Raffles Place to Tuas.

Anyway...

  • If you want to see things on the west side (Santa Monica, Venice Beach), then you probably want to stay near the beach in Santa Monica. I can vouch for the Oceana Beach Club; the fancy people stay in the bungalows at the Fairmont Miramar;
  • If you want to stay in Hollywood - don't. Hollywood is a sh*thole, sorry to say. Stay in West Hollywood instead; it's a hell of a lot nicer and there's a lot more to do around there. If you don't stay at the Chateau Marmont, at least go and have a drink in the front bar (it's a primo location for a bit of light celebrity-spotting); other than that I hear good things about the Andaz and the London hotels;
  • If you want to stay near Disneyland, make sure you pick a place that's actually in Anaheim so you're not miles from anywhere. I think the smart play is to suck it up and stay at one of the Disney hotels close to the park;
  • If you want to stay in Malibu, Monarch Beach or Palm Springs: those are all great places to stay, but none of them are anywhere near Los Angeles proper;
  • If you want to stay anywhere else... no you don't. Don't stay downtown (it's dead after 6pm); don't stay near the airport; don't stay in Van Nuys, Long Beach, Pasadena, Burbank, or Compton. Especially Compton.

don't stay near the airport

Unless your only purpose is to fly out next morning. Hell, I stayed there - around LAX and surroundings three times last 6 month it is one step above shithole.

LAX makes every effort to win the title of 'the worst big airport in US' from EWR/LGA. I would avoid flying in/out of LAX if possible, and especially avoid staying at hotels around the airport. Just simply don't.

Yup, pickup the car from LAX then drop of at SFO. I was looking at expedia.com.sg. I noticed they are cheaper that going directly to the car rental website. Is this common?
thanks, Ill try kayak.com

woah thanks for all your advice.

Actually i dont really have any idea where to go or what to do. only listed these few places to visit:
Hollywood & Highland mall
Hollywood walk of fame
Beverly Hill Trolly Tour
Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Venice Beach
Universal Studio

Looking for hotels at Venice Beach and somewhere in West Hollywood/Hollywood that is near/beside Metro for easy access to all the places above.

Any good outlet at LA?

Aft some search i realise most of the places have no access to metro...hmm..

These are mostly all around Hollywood, except for Venice Beach (which is over on the beach near Santa Monica). You'll want to stay in West Hollywood. Just book the London or the Andaz. Treat yourself.

To get to Venice Beach, or to your hotel from the airport - if you don't have a car, you're going to have to taxi it. The Metro doesn't go anywhere you want to be.

Any good outlet at LA?

No, not near where you are. The Citadel Outlets are about an hour's drive east, and the Camarillo Premium Outlets are about an hour's drive north. Hit up Venice Beach and Santa Monica instead - they're a heck of a lot nicer and they'll have a lot of unique stuff that you won't find anywhere else.

Yeah. LA's public transport is famously awful. The Metro doesn't even go to the airport; the buses are slow and miserable. It's a car-driven city; you'll either need to rent a car or go a bit nuts with taxis.

Bus no 3 goes to Venice Beach from Lax T1 upper lvl shuttle stop. But i am not sure if we can carry our luggages with us onto their public bus.

HK has the best airport express bus where passengers can put their luggages at the lower deck with CCTV monitoring.
