Im planning to go to LA this Apr. Planning for a road trip going to SF. Wanted to ask you guys here on where did you book your car rental?
They're all pretty much fine. I like Hertz, because they have a big range of hot metal (Porsches! AMG Mercs!); some others recommend going through the aggregators. Really it's mostly the same.
Any kind souls can help??
Your itinerary's mostly guided tours, so I'm not sure there's a lot we can help you with.
Hi US gurus, my wife and I are heading to NYC end of this month.
Any suggestions on a driving trip to Canada? Will 3 nights suffice? Thanks.
First tip, brace yourself: it's been a brutally cold winter on the east coast and in the middle bits. I was in Chicago for a couple of days in February and the
maximum was -15 Celsius.
So now that's out of the way... yeah, 3 nights is probably plenty. Do Montreal or Quebec City, though; Toronto is boring.
Fly to your destination (
NYC to Montreal is a solid six-hour drive, and god help you if there's snow), and then cruise around the city at your leisure.
Any recommendation for accommodation in LA? Not driving so i am worried travelling would be a problem.
Where in LA? Greater Los Angeles is about three times the size of Singapore, so saying "any recommendations in LA?" is like saying "any recommendations in Singapore or Johor?". Driving from downtown LA to Santa Monica - which look like they're right next to each other on the map! - is the equivalent of driving from Raffles Place to Tuas.
Anyway...
- If you want to see things on the west side (Santa Monica, Venice Beach), then you probably want to stay near the beach in Santa Monica. I can vouch for the Oceana Beach Club; the fancy people stay in the bungalows at the Fairmont Miramar;
- If you want to stay in Hollywood - don't. Hollywood is a sh*thole, sorry to say. Stay in West Hollywood instead; it's a hell of a lot nicer and there's a lot more to do around there. If you don't stay at the Chateau Marmont, at least go and have a drink in the front bar (it's a primo location for a bit of light celebrity-spotting); other than that I hear good things about the Andaz and the London hotels;
- If you want to stay near Disneyland, make sure you pick a place that's actually in Anaheim so you're not miles from anywhere. I think the smart play is to suck it up and stay at one of the Disney hotels close to the park;
- If you want to stay in Malibu, Monarch Beach or Palm Springs: those are all great places to stay, but none of them are anywhere near Los Angeles proper;
- If you want to stay anywhere else... no you don't. Don't stay downtown (it's dead after 6pm); don't stay near the airport; don't stay in Van Nuys, Long Beach, Pasadena, Burbank, or Compton. Especially Compton.
