All good there. If you are in Vegas, leave kids with one adult and go to TheMix at TheHotel (same building as Mandalay Bay) - around 9:30PM and sit outside.

This is great advice - it's bang on. The other great option is the House of Blues Foundation Room - get there early, around 8-8:30ish, and you'll be able to snag one of the coveted outside tables with zillion-dollar views right along the length of the Las Vegas Strip.

The whole Mandalay Bay complex is way underrated - it's a huge bargain.

The only reason I stop at Vegas on my way to/from Zion National Park is to go to the Mix or pay $30 for Mandalay Bay spa/pool where they have excellent exercise room, outdoor pool, wet and dry saunas, and four indoor spa/pools with different temperature water in them. If you go there mid week there will be almost no one at all.

I've checked pools/spas at Wynn, Cosmo, Aria, Vdara and bunch of older casinos - Mandalay Bay is the best.

This is the view from the Mix. Taken on my wedding day, after the ceremony. :)

Hi this is a sincere question because I see you guys advising not to carry thousands, which of course I wonder why would a person carry thousands of dollars with him every day. I usually like to carry cash but just enough cash for the day like 200 bucks per day and leave the rest in the hotel safe (not like every hotel's safe is safe of course) but i guess having something stolen from your safe anyway in the world would be an exception rather than a norm I guess?

And also unless you flash your cash indiscriminately, why would you become a target of mugging? (Of cos random mugging happens)

Not questioning local advices but just to understand the context of these advices?

Apparently because in some well-off Asian countries with relatively high income and relatively low crime (Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan) carrying cash is cultural/convenient thing. My colleagues in Tokyo routinely carry 200K yen with them, for example.

However people like them need to be reminded all the time that when they are in Rome, do as romans do.

This was your Public Safety announcement. Thanks for listening.

I don't think is necessary for a fast pass at USS.
I reach there just when it open and i went for all the rides, first floor first and then second floor. The crowd starts to come in around noon and I shop around the place, start taking photos and went for lunch. Then around 5pm or 6pm. The crowd starts to slowly disperse, we took some rides for the second time.
USS queuing is much better than disneyland. Firstly, it is indoors and they have short clips to entertain you through the wait.

I agree this sentence very much. They are not street-smart as Singaporeans too! Let me share about today's US communication advancement for commoners/peasants.

America today (in Year 2015) still very-very out-dated! In Southeast-Asia, we use Whatsapp, Line & WeChat like mad. But, most Americans do not use these apps! The Americans are still heavily depending on sms text and voice call. "si-bpeh laoo-yao"

In early year 2000 onwards, Singaporeans use sms text like crazy. American still don't use sms text and most Americans do not know what is sim card.

Let's forget about Apple Inc and not all Americans can afford iphones. Like I said, communication apps are "unpopular" among Americans! The Americans in Singapore are getting smart and they started to be poisoned by our Asian culture.

In terms of communication advancement, US is still way below Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and etc.

Americans are still very "bo-doh" and green when talking about handphones.

You are very wrong in this area. Only we are people that cannot live without a hand phone. I work in USA office every year. My co worker find very funny why I carry hand phone all the time. Even when going for a coffee break. From them, they leave the phone in the office or desk when they arrived at office.

Well usa is big with regards to phone culture... Some ppl do carry them around in the office in case they get emergency call from school or day care. At home usually set on a desk.

Sorry digress here

Hi patryn
quick question. Touching down SFO at 9.15PM with 2 kids (6year old and 2year old). Currently only have 1 booster seat from my 6year old.

If I am taking a cab from SFO to Hilton Union Square, do I need to get another child seat for my 2yr old ?

So far none of the airport shuttles provide a child seat (unless I charter the whole van)

Any other alternatives.

Thanks

If u driving u need a car seat for 2 yr old. 2yr old higher risk than 6 yr old. Law states if no seat belt don't need child seat but must sit in the back. Stay down don't let the cops see ya. Cab driver don't care as its your issue iirc

prepaid data plan in U.S

Anyone can advise which is the more economical and convenient way to get prepaid data plan in U.S?

1. rent an overseas wi-fi router rental at $12/day at Changi airport; or
2. buy U.S Sim card at U.S airport (Los Angeles / Las Vegas)

The dataplan is needed to help power iphone google map GPS driving navigation and staying connected.

Thanks.

Above. You land, you go to closest BestBuy and buy H2O Wireless SIM card and there buy and activate H2O $40 monthly unlimited plan.

H2O is using ATT network and great 3G coverage. I got exactly this combination when I and my wife were back in February. 1G data was more than enough for 25 days - navigation, using as hotspot for two notebooks, listening Pandora, etc - at the end, we had used 600MB.

Thanks! I followed the link but saw that the H2O Wireless - Dual SIM Card - Yellow only include regular and micro SIM cards but not nano sim which iphone 5/6 are using. Is that correct?

I'm going to both USA and Canada during my holiday. Is there any pre-paid SIM card that works in both countries, or do I need to buy one in each country?

For USA, is there any other data plans cheaper than H2O's $40 monthly unlimited? I'll be in US for about a week, probably 1GB will suffice.

In Canada, which SIM card should I get?

Thanks!

H2O has nano sim - most likely they are sold in Best Buy/Walmart as well.

If you plan to order something from Amazon, with delivery/pickup either in US or Singapore - you can order Nano Sim Card and $40 plan as well. It will be cheaper.

Hey guys im gg Fort Lauderdale next month for work and also holiday at the same time...but i have changed cash before i read this forum which advises not to use too much cash in USA...as i will only shopping for 2 days, one day will be at the outlet store Sawgrass Mill, and one day i will be gg to Miami. Will it be safe? as i will leave most of my cash in the safe of my hotel and just bring the amount needed for shopping on that day. And i will also be heading to Orlando Disneyworld, i believe it will be safe in there as its a family entertaiment centre. And also i would like to ask where can i change my notes into smaller note as money changer only give me 100s. Was thinking of buying something cheap like starbuck or Mac in JFK airport as i im trsfing there. Thanks

Hi guys, will be going to the West coast in late may. I will be landing in LAX. We are thinking of doing the drive from LA to SF through highway 1. I would like to ask if it is possible to do this drive within 1 day? We have 3 drivers to rotate.

If you planning to rent wifi unit from Changi Airport, please note that for USA, their "Fair Usage Policy" applies even though it can say UNLIMITED. For USA, it is 400MB usage per day and it will deactivate the service if you hit 400MB per day and will only reactivate after 24 hours. So if you have many people using, might be something to take note.

There are number of places to step out on US-1 and walk around. You can drive from LA to SF within one day but the whole day would spent on driving.
