New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles. Tried June period and Sept period and found 1.1k~ fares. Need to play around with the dates to get the lowest fare possible.

I'm seeing a couple of $977 SGD r/t fares for September next year on JAL. Try something like this:

* SIN-NRT-LAX September 5th, flight 712 -> flight 62
* LAX-NRT-SIN September 28th, flight 61 -> flight 711

That one comes out at $976.80 SGD r/t including all taxes, but it's pretty sensitive to dates - if you move either flight back or forward a couple of days it jumps up to $1100 or $1200.

Unfortunately mate we need a bit more than "the eastern side of the US", that could be anywhere from Key West to Maine. We need to know:
  • What cities are you looking at?
  • What dates are you looking at?
  • What's your price range - "dirt cheap", "cheap but not scuzzy", "nice", or "where's my butler?"
  • Do you have a preferred hotel chain that you want to rack up the points with?

I find AirBNB can be a bit hit-or-miss; it's definitely cheaper than hotels on average but I tend to stick with hotels (also I'm a Starwood loyalist so I usually stay with Westin/Sheraton/etc.).

United to launch non-stop flights from San Francisco to Singapore in June 2016

Jan 29, 20169:45 AM

UNITED Airlines (UA) will launch a daily non-stop flight from Singapore to San Francisco from June 3, making it the only airline to offer a non-stop service from the city-state to the United States at present.

The airline will use the Boeing 787-9 - better known as the Dreamliner - to operate the service.

According to UA, the Singapore-San Francisco service will be the longest scheduled 787 flight operated by any airline at 13,593 kilometres.

"We are very excited about introducing nonstop flights between Singapore and San Francisco," said Marcel Fuchs, United's vice-president of Atlantic & Pacific sales. "This long-awaited service has been made possible by the newest version of our customer-pleasing Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and will offer unique benefits to customers traveling from Singapore not only to San Francisco, but also to dozens of other cities across the Americas via our San Francisco hub."

Singapore Airlines, which has ordered the A350-Ultra Long Range aircraft, will launch direct flights to New York and Los Angeles from 2018, it announced last year.

Flight UA2 will depart Changi Airport at 8.45am daily, arriving at San Francisco International Airport at 9.15am the same day. The return flight, UA1, will depart San Francisco at 11.25pm daily, arriving in Singapore at 6.45am two days later (local time). Flying times will be approximately 15 hours, 30 minutes eastbound and 16 hours, 20 minutes westbound - saving up to about four hours each way compared to a one-stop service.

United has timed the new flights so passengers can connect at San Francisco for onward services throughout the US, Canada and Latin America. With this new service, United will provide a one-stop service between Singapore and more than 40 US cities, including over 25 cities that do not have one-stop service from Singapore currently.

United will terminate service between Singapore and Tokyo's Narita Airport from June 2. However, passengers can still fly to Narita by using daily flights on ANA, United's trans-Pacific joint venture partner.

Fwah!
UA non stop to SFO

Too bad their service n economy class will still suck. :(

When did you last travel with UA?
Ticket price is lots of different compared to SQ.
UA around $1337. SQ is $2071. If you are travelling with family of 4. You can easily go again from the saving.

You need to be served all the time even while you are sleeping?
I would rather pay less as long as there is enough food and video on demand. By the way, their video on demand is much better then those in SQ.

Most likely from Chicago, Indianapolis, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando.

Dates roughly Mar to end Apr

Price range should be cheap but not scuzzy as i am travelling as a family with 1 kid

OK, first thing, Chicago and Indy are still going to be pretty cold at that time of year, so take a warm jacket or two.

What I'd do is I'd pick a hotel chain to be loyal to, and sign up for their loyalty program. Then, just book with that chain in every city you go to; all those chains have good coverage in those cities.

Book through the hotel chain's website, as well, rather than through third-party portals - the hotel chains will always price-match the portal rates, and if you book through the chain's website you'll get points and perks as well. Make sure you give them your loyalty number when you book, so you get the credits for your stays.

If you're loyal to one chain, you should just about have gold status by halfway through your trip, and you'll have racked up enough points for a few free nights by the time you get down to Orlando. Kaching!

Hilton is probably your best bet, because their cheap-and-nice Hampton Inns brand is everywhere in roadside America - if you pick any random little town on any interstate freeway in America, the odds are good that there'll be a Hampton close by. So if you're driving from city to city instead of flying, this is the one to pick. And Hampton properties almost always have free breakfast and free wireless internet, so that'll save you a ton of money.

(Also, side note: I've stayed in the Hampton Chicago Theater District and I can vouch for it; the breakfast is a bit crowded unless you get there early, but it's cheap for Chicago and it's perfectly good.)

You can sign up for the Hilton HHonors program online right here.

Starwood is good as well, but there aren't many Starwood properties outside the big cities, so it's harder to be loyal to them. If you go for Starwood, you can sign up right over here.

Hi Shiny Things,

I thought when we book the hotel, we have to pay first and then upon staying then we will earn points. Is this how it works there also?

....

Orlando for Disney and USS? I highly recommend you to do self drive there and spend a minimum of 5days. There are many car rental to choose from, but I'll go for Sixt. Their prices are very reasonable and you get to choose your car (30mins) before arriving by using their app! I got a Mercedes GL450 that is only 10 days old.

For hotels, I'll recommend you to stay in Disney hotel for experience and convenience. There is seriously too much to do in the resort alone, without hitting the theme parks. For shopping, you can visit the outlet malls (there 2 big ones) and Macrobaby to shop for all your baby/kids needs.

Yep, but after a few nights you'll have earned enough points that you can book a few nights later in the trip using the points you've built up.
