BRK.B...why are you languishing....pick up the pace tomorrow ok?

Seeing as the market will be closed tonight...lets talk about stock purchased.

Not performing just yet: mine has definitely gotta be BRK.B for now. It is just not moving...sometimes it even dips to the red (compared to my buy price). The other one is V. Bought it a little too high...definitely my bad...but i think in the long run it will be good. Probably will dip after the split, and i will buy more then to average down.

Performing: has to be AAPL so far...closely followed by GILD, then MEIP and DIS. MEIP only because i bought 50 shares as a punt...and so far it has been paying off. AAPL and GUILD seems very undervalued, which a lot of spare cash. I think this two will fly soon...just gotta be patient.

Unsure buy: ATLS (vested) i am not sure how things will be after buyout. Hopefully the stub does well. Still not sure if UA is worth buying right now....it seems a bit high...so i am sitting around and waiting. Ditto with WFM. I believe in the business, and I think it has potential to grow. They have plans to increase the number of stores they already have, and there is talk they might be going into health care retreats

You guys purchased how many shares per quote? Usually I buy in 1000 shares or 500 shares. I would never buy below 500 shares as the commission is not worth it and the multiplication factor (# of shares) is too low.

Hehe, If you mean purchased recently then maybe can discuss. If you mean all my purchases, forget it, I have over 30++ counters.

Don't worry about BRK.B, it likes to stagnant then chiong. I bought at $88 just 3 years back on Sept. Since then, it's stagnant between june 2013 to feb 2014, a whole 9 months before it chiong again. Be patient with this counter and it will reward you. It rise faster after a deep red than others.

V has jumped $50 in the report a few quarter back, than now $20 after recent quarter. Just sit tight and watch.

I never buy above 100. The comm makes it worth it when you use IB or SCB. You are using the wrong brokerage.

I use Standard Chartered.....cos it allows me to buy in bits and pieces without really feeling the pinch.

Lets just talk about stocks purchased this year...how about that?

So which are the "hello...wake up and start moving up can?"....who are the "giddy up! keep up the good work"...and the "you are in the probation period...whether you make the cut depends on you now"

BRK.B is my defensive stock...to help keep things in the green when time are bad. V is also for the long haul...and if it is anything like MA after the split...in time to come V will be very pretty and a good investment...so will just keep buying post split (when it is low)

Long term wise, MAS slowing appreciation and USD is one of the major currency within its basket. USD will rise until they announce rate rise. Of course, it's still a risk. Like you, I also ran low on USD recently and added about 5k in at 1.3. Think I should exchange more before it hits 1.4

its defn gonna rise man.. US interest rate rise is gonna push USD up higher..

A side topic, which broker you guys use for trading US stocks?

I used to be with TD Ameritrade but they stop serving non US client recently. So I transferred to their subsidiary -Thinkorswim. I am finding their app damn painfulto use. Any suggestions?

Would hv made big big too. Depending on when he bought it. Pre split. .. v happy

I was happily a beneficiary of Apple after waiting over a year for it to bounce back. I had 2 ELNs that striked back then, so I was left with a shift load of Apple shares. And that was pre-split, so now this is my favorite stock hero story. Hahaha!

Actually thinkorswim ain't that bad. its pretty to use on desktop. I use their charts a lot. The best charting i ever used.
And can do option sales too.

But 95% of all my usa stocks and options are done on... Interactive Brokers.
Love it.

You were recommending Seeking Alpha a few pages back. how did you know what is good to read? I got damn lost in there! :s22:

I kinda like Marketwatch.com for its simply format to find the EPS, ROE, etc etc... used it to research on MEI and now looking at other stocks now

I already took profit by selling half at around 15% gain because I was not comfortable holding so much of one stock. Now left 1 lot which I hold as a side bet. I like apple, look forward to see how the iwatch would do.

im gonna get assigned with ITM puts for baba too.
only 100shares and im gonna keep it.

BABA is good, the market overreacted earlier. Yes, they didnt meet their revenue, but look at their profit level. Seriously, the market overreact.
BABA is a form of diversifications for me.

Hey, archerub, I'm not particularly looking for a counter to buy, I usually just read what caught my eye using my commute time to read a few articles here and there. Only research on those I'm interested in.

It's more random than you think. You see, for a overly-diversified investor like me, it's important that I like the counter and so am interested to read about it, as well as making sure the counter is a profitable one.

I think for most people, it's alright to just focus on a few counter and ignore all the others. You can do that on seeking alpha by listing out those counter on your portfolio and they will automatically send you any articles related to those that you listed.
You can even set alerts and other stuff.

Another thing to note is that although I'm very diversified, I don't really follow most of the smaller counters, I hardly worry over their short term movement.

The bigger ones which I'm more heavily vested are those blue chips or those that I really got time to research on. Blue chips like KO, AAPL, MCD, PEP, BRK.B, V, JNJ etc doesn't require more than a cursory glance afterall.

Those I really bother to research on, they are usually for a short punt, like LINE, IDRA.

So you see, I can totally don't watch the market if I choose to. I'm well-diversified and yet concentrated on several big blue chips.
I guess in the end, you pick your own meat and poison.

Thank for introducing stocktwit and marketwatch. I use stocktwit sometimes, I get lost there too. Is marketwatch's data reliable? If it's 70-80% accurate, it's good enough for me.
I know all sites has their share of inaccurate infor, that's why I prefer seekingalpha because lots of people would fight to correct the author if it's a popular holdings.

Oh, and I'm vested in BABA as a side punt. I think it's oversold too, but o well, I can take the hit even if it goes to $50. Though I look forward to $150.

Lastly, do not follow my overly-diversified portfolio, I can imagine when disaster strikes the market, I cannot sell so many counters in one go.
I have a warchest as backup so I (hopefully, since I've never been through a crisis) won't panic sell, but it's still a very sticky situation to be in. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED.

Actually, 30++ stocks is ok, not overly diversified. Diversification is good anyway. But ya, I can imagine it gets tough to keep track and react. Different time zone some more. Myself, ignoring mutual funds, I think I have like over 100 counters right now. Most of them managed by my bank side, I personally trade a max of around 10-20 stocks at any one time. Hard to keep up sometimes.

And let's hope BABA makes it to $150! :D
