Hi guys,
being out of the scene for more than 3 yrs I am totally outdated as to what are the hardware out there and if they are performing well. So appreciate if anyone can take some time out to assist.

Currently on my C2D Q6600 2.4ghz, P35 mobo, 4gb (old)ram and Readon 7770 GPU.

Looking to build a new rig for everyday use including heavy video watching and surfing. Not a heavy gamer but I do play some of the newer games like Watchdog, however I dont need the best graphic as long as the game don't lag.
Basically I am looking to build the best "Value for money" rig with a budget of $800-1000

Did some research and these are what I think roughly but I am not able to choose among the various model, so please help to comment/suggest:

Mobo: ??
CPU: i5?
RAM: 8gb
GPU: GTX 750? R7 260 ?
SSD (OS/Programs): Crucial MX100 256gb ?
Storage: Reusing HDDs
PSU: 550w?
DVD: Resuse
Monitor: Reuse

From the above you can see how "no idea" I am at the moment, so appreciate any help from our experts here for a "best value" rig with about $800-1000

Many thanks all.

CPU+ Mobo: ASROCK H81M-HDS+ i5 4460 (310)
RAM: 2X KINGSTON PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 VALUE RAM (4GB) (108)
GPU: LEADTEK GTX 750 TI 2GB O.C (225)
SSD: ADATA SP900 128GB (99)
PSU: SEASONIC S12II-Non MODULAR 520W (85)
Case: DEEP COOL TESSERACT (65)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)

Total cost: $1012

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, go to PC Care & Solution at #02-32 and ask Nigel to help you assemble for a fee.

Notes:

1) This rig should be fine for Watchdogs at High.
2) If possible, try to scronge up more money and get a Powercolor R9 270 for $259 or a Powercolor R9 270X for $299 for better gaming performance.

NOPE. I use PC Themes' latest pricelist to give price quotes. Tradepac would be much cheaper. My builds however tend to emphasize basic usuability with acceptable levels of quality (In my books) instead of using more high quality components.

No lah, they won't chop you. PC Themes is a highly recommended shop for newbies for a good reason. You haven't heard of the real choppers yet.

Any one else have any other suggestions for consideration?

Cheers

I used to go to fulwell for all my purchases, but it seems that now PC Themes & TradePac is the 'go to' shops now? (i noticed fulwell stuff are reletively more expensive compared)

If you really want to have a value rig,

1k

ASRock H81M HDS + i5-4460 ~ $302
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz Value Ram ~ $100
WD 1tb Blue ~ $67
Corsair Force LX 128gb ~ $98
Xigmatek Tauro 450w 80+ Bronze non Modular PSU ~ $59
Sharkoon MS140 ~ $54
LG DVD Drive ~ $21
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ~ $115

Total ~ $816. Buy at tradepac. DIY <--- check it out if you do not know how to DIY.

The remainder of the budget please go and search the garage market for a 2nd hand r9 270 card. Should be able to get at $200.
