It used to be for different types of dealers in Japan, there is two main players I think.

But since the the start of Vellfire (Vellfire launched with 2nd generation Alphard), it's pretty much just bodykit differences.

Though now the latest version Vellfire is positioned 'slightly' above Alphard with their engine options.

And Alphard 3rd generation, there's also the introduction of Lexus LM, with the same body frame, but totally different interior and high tier power trains.

So technically there's 3 options to choose from, Alphard / Vellfire / Lexus LM.
Lexus LM is priced at 650k, if it is just interior differences, i really think thats way too much to pay for leather seats and hard flooring. Always tot engine is different.

Comfort level still cannot beat a cheap Merc lah! Cornering will make you seasick. Vellfire is a people carrier, meant for mass transportation of people. Hence ICA calls it a mini bus :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

This kind of van brake very chiu one. Always see them hogging the right lane in Genting :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Cheap Merc? Alphard as a whole is even more comfy for family than an S Class for it's versatility. S class is only comfy for 1-2 adults going to office.

In Indonesia, almost every upper class has it.

Hard to drive. Bbfa only BMW. Bus MRT walk
Actually Alphard is quite easy to drive, I drive it on days without driver and whole family going out.

It's just that the hp is a bit weaker for the size, but it's still easy to drive.

Base Alphard is a 2.4L CVT then 2.5L Hybrid then 2.5L Turbo, Lexus starts with the 2.5L Hybrid and up now.

Last generation is 2.4L CVT and 3.5L V6 with Lexus only 3.5L V6.

Lexus version is the higher tier engine options, with nicer interior and better sound dampening, I think probably shock breaker is also of higher quality, but yeah the base is the same.

Always see car review say the v6 version very powerful
Its considered quite a luxury mpv anyway, price is expensive also, peasants like me no chance to experience

Tried it, yeah "more" powerful, but the car is heavy so maybe won't feel so even though it's close to 300hp.

But 95% of sales is still the base model, as most owners aren't going to be driving it so the base model is good enough, especially in Indonesia where traffic is so bad, V6 is just going to waste fuel.

It's the best MPV option, cannot compare it to a Sedan or SUV for it's versatility. And also very comfortable to drive.

Long distance, my Lexus SUV makes my body ache more as a driver compared to driving an Alphard.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Alphard

The Toyota Alphard (Japanese: トヨタ・アルファード, Hepburn: Toyota Arufādo); /alfærd/) is a minivan produced by the Japanese automaker Toyota since 2002. It is available as a seven or eight-seater with petrol and hybrid engine options. Hybrid variants have been available since 2003, which incorporates Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. It is Toyota's flagship minivan.[3]

The Alphard is primarily made for the Japanese market, but is also sold in many Asian countries,[4] Belarus,[4] Russia,[5] and the Middle East.[6] Similar to the Camry, it is often regarded as a luxury car in Southeast Asian markets.

Since the second generation, a twin model called Toyota Vellfire (Japanese: トヨタ・ヴェルファイア, Hepburn: Toyota Verufaia) has also been available, which is marketed as a sportier alternative to the Alphard and exclusively marketed by the Netz Store dealership chain until 2020. Since 2019, a modified and more upscale version of the model has been sold as the Lexus LM.

The vehicle was named after Alphard,[7] the brightest star in the constellation Hydra. The Alphard wears a special front emblem which depicts the lowercase alpha letter.[8] A prominent design feature of the Alphard is its shield-like grille, which it's had since the launch of the AH30 generation in 2015.

The name "Vellfire" was derived from "velvet" and "fire" to emphasize "smooth" and "passionate" as characteristics of the vehicle.[9] Starting from the AH30 generation, the Vellfire has been given aggressive styling to reflect being the sportier version of the Alphard. As of the AH40 generation, the Vellfire received its own unique insignia in the form of a stylized 'V', in an effort to further distinguish it from its twin.

You must be kidding by comparing the comfort of a van to the S Class. The S Class has seat kinetics, massage functions, adaptive air suspensions, great ride and handling whereas the Alphard is just a van (without all the bells and whistles of an luxury executive sedan), looks like a van and rides like a van :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I was not even comparing it to the S Class. Even a mere A Class beats the Alphard hands down. Never driven an Alphard because I don't want to be mistaken as a PHV driver. Sat in one in Japan and almost puked my lunch out when the road got slightly bendy. Absolutely not suitable for rear-passenger comfort :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Like I said, Alphard is a van/mini bus and meant for transporting masses of people. S Class is for bosses, two rear seats is just fine :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I'm sorry but Indonesia cannot afford Merc because their currency is like toilet paper. A lower SES (3rd world) country cannot appreciate the comfort of a real car. Here in EDMW, most bbfas have not had the chance to sit in a real car, let alone driven one -- most of their rides are either Genting runs with a large group of people sharing the cost of an Alphard or taking Grab which they will most likely be picked up by a SUV or Vezel. Hence the Alphard ending up being the alpha pick for bbfas here doesn't come as a surprise. Ask someone who is a high SES sinkie instead :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
