so on the bottom line if intend to bring SG$800, how much goes to USD and how much goes to Dong? Changing in Singapore is better or in HCMC better?

well,, thats a million dollar question.. seriously.. i wouldn;t know how much you should change to S$ or US$, it all depends on what you are going to do, where yo are heading for, anything particular that you are buying..? the hotel accomodation you are staying in... :)

Exchange rate as of today from Vietcom Bank in Vietnam for
Sin to Dong is S$1 - > 11,633VND
US$1 -> 16,135 VND

If you r planning ur trip this july n need a translator i can find a translator for you.Are you a chinese as I can find u a chinese dialect translator cantonese or teochew.Hotels do provide translators but if u request they will hire from outside.It is true that some taxi drivers here over charge passengers especially tourists.I have a taxi driver who is a vietnamee-chinese and speaks cantonese,if you want I can arrange for you when u r here you can always book him and you comunicate with him in cantonese and he never knows you are not local and this driver never over charge.

Hi

I might be going to HCMC this coming July, I was wondering, can I hire a local translator/guide when I'm there? Any hotels provide this service?

Hi yea, if you are going on a leisure tour, u are looking for a guide, if you are going on a marketing survey or business related purpose, you need a translator.. pricewise, translators costs more and are sometimes a little more tricky to pick the right one for you and your marketing purpose. Guide does not equal to Translators ;)

Techadd is right and have the point,for leisure u need a guide who can speaks english but bear in mind that their english standard is not that good,if u r chinese than get a chinese speaking guide or dialect (cantonese or teochew) guide.
If for business u have to hire a translator which is costly if u know the people here with connection can get cheaper.

good and cheap hotels

hmmm.....
where to book cheap but good hotel?
and places of interest to visit while im there.....
thanks.....

If you stay in the center which district 1 which is like singapore's orchard road,things there are much more expensive and cut throat.You can stay in the inner districts like district 5,10 or 11.These are chinatown districts with many viet-chinese staying here.Things here are much cheaper and not that cut-throat.Hotels here are cheaper and room not small.Rates range from Sgd 20 -28 including breakfast, w/aircond,tv attach shower n toilet and some of them double the size of hotel 81 room.And if you want to get around the city try the motor bike(honda cub) taxi, they call it in vietnamese xe om,5 km abt sgd$1 and can bargain, cheaper than taxi, I know of some chinese speaking motor bike taxi drivers.

FH and I are thinking of visiting a nice French restaurant like Augustine's when we are in HCM. Anyone knows if we need to dress up for it? Also, any other recommendations for food? :D
