VND, bring sgd to change money. Every developing countries has tipping practices thanks to Americans.
No. Tipping is not compulsory in Vietnam.

The locals don't anyhow give tips.

I only tip in a few cases:
1) the hotel staff who offer to carry my heavy luggage s up to my room
Usually 10 to 20k

2) the skybar staff who offer to move me to a table with a much better view and he/she initiated this without me asking.
Tip: 20k to 50k

Other than the above two and massage... No need to tip at all

Please don't spoil market

Hi, I'm planning a 6 days trip to Hanoi in late Dec. Here is my draft itinerary.
Day 1: arrive Hanoi late morning. walk around Hanoi in day, night train to Sapa
Day 2: Sapa
Day 3: fansipan, Sapa. Then night train back to Hanoi
Day 4: halong Bay overnight cruise
Day 5:halong Bay, Hanoi city
Day 6:Hanoi
Day 7: late morning back to sg.

Is this itinerary too rushed? Am I spending too much time touring hanoi city? If yes, should I spend one more day in Sapa or halong Bay? Thanks

Day 3, fansipan takes more than half day. Last transport from sapa to lao cai is afternoon.

Which halong Bay cruise do you all recommend?

Yeah, any halong bay cruise to recommend? saw golden lotus cruise from sapa express website, not sure if its ok.

i also see some tour agency provides sleeper bus from airport to sapa, consider to go directly to sapa instead of staying a day at old quarter but not much review for that service. will be checking with sapa express to see if they provide transport from airport to sapa.

Normally is half day to finish the cu chi tunnel ...
have to squeeze yourself in the small tunnel
is about 5+ or 6+sgd if i rmb correctly ...

the mekong delta one day tour is about 10 or 12sgd
lunch provided, transport too ...
1.5 hours to go there, 1.5hrs back ... 8am go, about 5pm return ...

There are cheap Restaurants and expensive ones.

Usually I will recommend Pho2000 (President Pho) which is next to Ben Thanh Market and situated right above Coffee Bean. Order small bowl will do so that you have the stomach for other snacks.

If want cheap... The street which Ha Tam is on... Walk all the way to the end and you will see Quán Bún Mộc Thanh Mai

A bit rush.

1. Sapa is nice and should worth more of your time. That is my view
2. Tip: If the weather is clear, go Fansipan in the late afternoon to catch the sunset. Worth it.
3. Skip Halong bay, to me it is a bit meh. Unless it is a luxury cruise you are boarding.
