imho, their internet speed is better than singapore and malaysia. at tsn airport the free wifi speed was well above 150.

just make a charged transaction like sending sms and the expiry date will be pushed forward 60 days. you can keep your prepaid sim alive forever.

Fast is good... :(:(

I suggest spending 3 days in Hoi An. It's a really laid back charming old town and of course the main purpose is to really chill there. There are so many nice cafe, pubs, restaurants to enjoy or just wander around exploring the lives of the locals. Hoi An has the nicest food in Vietnam - exemplary of the delicate cuisine from the Nguyen dynasty (the last ruling dynasty). Btw upon arriving u might find Hoi an just another Penang perhaps but spending more time there u will be surprised by the intricate yet sophisticated fusion of Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese cultures there

Seems v. interesting.. :(:(

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum, just created an account here because it seems like a fantastic place to gather travel information best suited for SGreans like myself. Just wondering, how safe is it in HCMC for a solo female traveller? I'll be heading there in a little less than 2 weeks :)

I prefer Hoi An over Hue. Both are laid back and sleepy, but Hue is a bigger city and there is nothing much to do besides visiting tombs and palaces. But then again both of them are truly for historical, cultural and cuisine appreciation. Vietnameseness took shape in this central part of Vietnam over the last few decades (and not in Hanoi).

Can consider 2 days in Hue and 2 days in Hoi An. I really like the food in Hoi An. Da Nang has progressed so fast compared to Hanoi or HCM.

Looks like its a must for me to pay Hoi An an extended visit. :s13:

The # of direct flights to Danang is pathetic though. I only noticed the two. Silkair and Jetstar, latter doesn't even fly the route on a daily basis.

you need to activate roaming before you leave viet nam. for vina, you must have credit balance of 100,000 before you can activate, for viettel, 200,000.

a better way is to obtain the web portal pin for your number while you are in viet nam, and then login and send sms from the web. one sms costs around 220-250 dong and the amount can be deducted from the bonus balance.

The flight time for Jetstar to Danang was not very good. Reach there already night time. Hopefully there's cheaper option with better timing to visit there.

faster way without direct is, fly morning plane to hcm, take domestic flight to danang.....
But..... domestic flight always delay one.......

Ever once my flight to da lat is 7 am , it send email say flight delay and the flight change to 5 pm..... i was like wth..... cancel flight take back money and take sleeper bus go up....

Wrong advice. It is actually not a faster, but slower way - Jetstar's intra-vietnam flights can moved in-out +/- two days and there is nothing you can do.

Locals advised me to apply following rules in terms of air travel and Vietnam:

- Always select direct route and avoid connecting inside Vietnam if possible.
- If you have to connect inside Vietnam, book Vietnam Airlines and avoid all others
- Avoid first and last intra-Vietnam flights because those are one canceled/moved the most.
