Vietnam Airlines currently has promo of direct flights from Singapore to Hanoi and back - $235 in Economy.

For some people here it might sound too expensive, but consider that it is direct, non-stop 4h flight (flight from Singapore to Saigon is shorter than from Saigon to Hanoi) and it is full service airline with food/snack and 25kg luggage allowance. The only other alternative with non-stop flight currently is with SilkAir/SQ and they want... $800 for return flight for the same days. No joke.

As for flying to Saigon, if you depart and come back to Johor, instead of Singapore, you can save a lot with flight on AirAsia which has non-stop JHB-SGN flight. And contrary to JetStar promos which you need to snap within 1h of announcement, those flight are running on a average price of MYR 240 return, or SGD $80. The only disadvantage is that flight leaves on 7:25AM from Johor, so you need to think about transportation.

$800 on SQ:eek: Vietnam airlines business class return around $560. still got $240 change to stay for 2-3 more nights in hanoi hotel :s13:Would you rather pay more to enjoy the hotel stay in hanoi or pay more for sq pilot training and gcp stewardess salary?

i fly to taiwan and japan also around $550-$700 on EVA and Japan Airlines. $800 to hanoi :s13::s22:

Seems like not much of a difference between changing in Singapore and in HCMC.
Always thought changing in HCMC will get far better rate. :s22:

Thanks grapewall and micromousez!

It depends on the amount u change. My friend change here 15800, vn is 16200, so diff is 400. If you change sgd1000, that's vnd400k diff.

Now USD sudden drop, VND back to 16500 plus, I'll still change in vn since I have vnd10m on hand. Going on 15 jun, hope rate maintains this level as I am going to change sgd2K.

there are a few shops at the arcade that give very close to saigon's goldsmith rate. 16150 before the usd's sudden drop.

How do you get to JHB by 6:25AM? Even the earliest bus from Kranji to JB CIQ is 4:20AM then from JB Sentral to Senai Airport is 5:30AM. :s22:

how long is it from JB Sentral to Senai Airport?

I guess only need to be there 45 minutes before flight to check-in, right? which is about 6:40AM...

Assuming that you do not have checked luggage, you will get to JHB right on time.

But at 4:20AM there is no bus/mrt, you one need to get taxi/uber (preferable, if available) to get to the checkpoint, go thru and and then wait the above mentioned bus to arrive.

Shuttle bus leaves Sentral at 5:30AM and arrives at the airport at 6:10AM - plenty of time

registration only allows to you to fill in your personal particulars. when you are still connected to vinaphone's network, login to app is automatic and doesnt require a password. perhaps this is why you were not aware of the need of a password.

sending a sms from web is way better than sending a roaming sms. the former doesnt require roaming to be activated, costs a mere 220 dong and can be deducted from bonus balance which is pretty useless and cannot be used for data. the latter eats into your main balance and if performed in singapore costs 7000 dong each.

d5 didnt work for me and i had to subscribe to d7. maybe my card was very old and d5 is open to newer cards only. do try d5 first and see if it works for you.

to activate roaming you need to have a min balance of 100k dong. to reload from singapore you need to use ussd and roaming needs to be activated. but i heard if you dont meet the min balance requirement, you could call customer service to temporarily enable roaming for you. short code sms doesnt work over roaming so you cannot obtain password this way.
mobi D5 confirm is no more..

dun forget to Huy D5 or Huy D7 before you come back. else, they will still continue to deduct ur money..

2.5 days/3 night in Hanoi - where to go outside of the city?

Arriving to Hanoi on Friday around 2PM, leaving on Monday at 11AM. Will be there mid-september this year.

I and my wife do not intend to stay in the city - we would rather go somewhere unique in terms of nature/history/culture.

Any recommendations where to go and see while NOT spending more than 4h one way from Hanoi? Anyone have been at Ba Vi or Xuan Son National Parks?

Yes you can visit the Cu Chi Tunnels when it rains, but you will want to skip the tunnel-crawling experience.

just back from hcm .....

Have a second hell of experience this time..... the person i go with never plan properly, did not check the timing of the bus towards mui ne....

First took a cab to bien hoa as i want to meet up and leave earlier to go mui ne.... cab fare damn ex..... 600K...... Bus timing no good as 10 am bus have gone... next timing i remember 3 pm....

Then first time see how hitch a ride works, jump to anybus on the way which i do not recommend as you be sitting on the floor in a sleeper bus which is so pack already.... And i believe is over the limit of the people it can take.... Secondly the bus drive too fast which explain why there so many accidents in Vietnam
