definitely worth it... but the starting part of confirming your location with the driver is like chicken and duck... :s22:
that's why i always make my grab booking at hotel lobby. so that if driver calls, i just pass the phone to the hotel reception.. lol

else, you better learn by hard how to pronounce the road name and number.. and probably the district number.

here are some of the popular road name in vietnam. (ie, there is a nguyen trai road in every vn city)

nguyen trai - wing chai
tran hung dao -
ly tu trong - li ti chong
and many many more.

oh.. District 1 - vietnamese seldom say Quan Mot. Instead they say Quan Nhat. (District First).

District 4 - vietnamese sometimes will call it Quan Thu.

Hanoi - Halong Bay

Does anybody have any experience traveling by own transport from Hanoi to Halong Bay?
i.e either taxi or arranged private driver.

wondering roughly how much will it cost or if got any recommended driver or transport contact.

was reading up and i don't like taking those tour bus where they will have those tourist gift stops along the way, kinda waste time.

If you book a Halong Bay cruise from Hanoi, there are arranged pick-ups from the place you stay. There are no "free" stops.

From My Dinh Bus Station there are buses that go to Halong, but you will need to take bike taxi to the wharf itself.

stayed many hcm hotels before ...
most 3 stars hotels are ok .
their hotels normally have about 60 rooms in the building
price is about 35sgd onwards for two per nite with breakfast

if u r looking for 4stars hotels, good ones are
eden stars saigon, harmony, their breakfast spread is very good
promo price is about 80+ to 120sgd per nite for two

most hotels in hcm, lied about their room size
is common practice .
for example, have stayed before many hotels, if their room size is 24m2, is actually about 16 to 18m2 ... hence, better to book hotel which is at least 25m2 ... even for 4 stars hotel which says 28m2, actually about 24m2 only

the weather should be similiar to singapore quite hot also ...

Stayed in several 3 star hotels, all very near BT in D1, paid about 30+ to 40+ per night, good enough.

Usually still hot, just like SG, all year round.

We only go for 3 stars, good enough since main objective is just to sleep late night while most times out. Paid 30+ to 40+ at most via Agoda.

Hmm....any specific ones for recommendations? Must be clean n hygiene. Got breakfast better.

Sent from Asus ME173X using GAGT

normally based on my budget, max 60sgd per nite for two
have shortlisted some better ones:

lan lan 1
lan lan 2
le duy
vien dong
elios
hoang hai long , now think is rebranded into Alagon Central Hotel & Spa

the above mentioned hotel breakfast is not bad, in terms of varietities
have stayed other 3* hotel, their breakfast is like economy rice ...
would be better to book hotel with more rooms, breakfast would have more choices ...

Can try Lavender (3.5 star) or Blue Diamond. The room is bigger and more comfortable for Lavender. Can checkout at Agoda. The buffet at BD is good in my opinion so far.

Wonder is it a good idea to have a seperate section on Vietnam....

Vietnam had been gaining popularity....and various places like HCM, Hanoi, Hoi An, Sapa, Dalat,.....etc

Vietnam is definitely gaining vey popular in recent yrs....now can even change good VND rate here. It will soon surpass Thailand, or maybe already surpassed. I have not been to Thai for more than 10 years, it's boring and dangerous in my view.

Yup Blue Diamond is good.
have taken into consideration for my last trip
price abt 45sgd per nite for two w breakfast

however, the room size is small
superior 22m2 without window
the room layout is same as lan lan1 and lan lan2
my guess is they under the same boss...
my guess for their superior would be around 16m2 in actual size :)

Lavender hotel review also not bad.
hotel room is even smaller. open up 2 luggages, no space to walk ...
superior room 20m2 without window
agoda picture show the room size, is obviously about 15m2 or so ...
