Traveling alone too and thinking if I should bring my camera. Maybe I will cut a hole on my day pack and take picture with the camera inside. Most of the pictures and videos about hcm is taken by media company, seldom see tourist post their pictures and videos on the streets. Think most of them lost the camera or just didn’t bring it.

Not to that extent, go YouTube and you see thousands of vlog.
Went there twice and never encounter such issue.

no problem for me ... just take the usual precautions
probably becoz streets weren't scenic for typical tourists

If you need to ask this, that means you're not familiar with the place. Then my advice is to stay in D1 since whatever you need or may need are readily available. For example, if you want to take a walk, you can go to Ben Thanh market. If you want to see night scenery, Bitexco is nearby. If you're in the mood for clubbing, there are lots of party places there, including hard rocks. Lots of foreigners there so language is not an issue.

If you're in the mood for a bit of adventure, can stay further away from D1, like D3,5 or Binh Thanh. Chinatown is in D5 by the way.

For me, i stay in Tan Binh. It is just 10 mins from the airport. I stayed next to a local market so i can buy necessities and food easily.

Wth stay so near airport for what sia haha..i m going to stay D1 likely after doing research on net as expected..just want a centralise area

Afternoon can do what there before the nightparty start? Besides shopping and massage. Can find a part time work there or help out free in cafes?

Can help to comment on Jetstar domestic flight in Vietnam?
Especially does it always have delay?

at first wanted Vietnam air but the flight time from Dalat to HCM is really too early. Got to be at airport by 7am (with 0.5hr delay, vietnam style :s13:, otherwise 6.30am)
also was considering flying jetstar from HCM to dalat but looks like better pay another S$200+, for 6 person, to minimise nasty surprises.

especially after watching that hysterical uncle at BKK over jetstar delay and meal vouchers :s13:

hi everyone, going to Ho Chi Minh soon, but isn't very sure how cheap/expensive the things are there.. how much does their food and shopping cost typically? any rough gauge on how much money to bring for a 4D3N family trip, excluding tour packages?

and I'm planning to exchange some VND in Singapore and bringing some SGD there in case not enough. is it safe to change money there? if so, any money changers around District 1 or near Ben Thanh Market?

thanks all!

Should have. By 5am, it's already very bright outside and lots of buzzing activities outside. Why don't you take a grab car or uber? Or even a grab bike?

Massage go 137 Quynh Nhu. Near Benh Thanh mkt and its v famous among locals. 1.5 hr full body massage with hotstone is 450k vnd. Dont need to tip.
It used to be 350k only.

HATAM rates are still better than Singapores best changer in Arcade.
Recently a new player emerged. EXIM bank in Benh Thanh mkt sometimes gives better rates than HATAM
