Have some perspective. 500K VND is less than SGD 30.

If I recall correctly, should be around 200k-300k.
If you want smaller notes, what I usually do is I use my Wise/Revolut/YouTrip card to withdraw money from the ATM at the airport. There is a small ATM fee for withdrawals and Agribank ATMs have the lowest fee at 22k. The max you can withdraw is 3 million and the machine will give you a combination of big and smaller notes.
