haha what did you tell the officer? Or just approach him and open your passport for him to see the 200k?

Just open my passport and show him the Dong. This was upon arrival at the HCM city airport.

But, during departure, there's NO where you can see any official standing at the two lines of queue, so llst and patiently queuing up. Although is a long queue but can be clear within 30mins 🙏🙏

yes, but not directly at the stadium. occasionally, one of the main roads in HCMC, "Lê Lợi", gets closed to traffic and it is turned into a giant outdoor screening location, with a few giant screens. great atmosphere, and if you are lucky, free beer.

Any idea how it's like to be in HCMC during the first few days of the lunar new year? I know it will be a ghost town.. would the French or Japanese restaurants in D1 be open, or everyone balek kampong for Tet?

Most restaurants would be closed. I have no issue finding restaurants that serve different cuisines. It also depends on which specific restaurants you are planning to patronise. Most if not all restaurants impose hefty charges during cny period and I have encountered up to 35% of the total bill. Some will inform you upfront while some would only inform you upon payment. There are many locals from other parts of Vietnam visiting HCMC during cny period too.
