Any idea how it's like to be in HCMC during the first few days of the lunar new year? I know it will be a ghost town.. would the French or Japanese restaurants in D1 be open, or everyone balek kampong for Tet?

CNY is probably the most quiet period you will ever experience in HCMC. smooth traffic, quiet streets.

There will still have some restaurants, cafes and food places still open since some vietnamese choose to work during Tet to earn more $$$.

it will be cooling. a bit similar to Genting.
foreigners rent bikes, you can ask your hotel front counter. some hotels provide bike rental service. otherwise, they will refer you to companies which do

VN660 is direct flight to Hanoi Noi Bai airport.

how do you intend to travel to Sapa? By train? By bus? or by private car?

take note that travel to sapa takes 5-6 hours. and another 5-6 hours back hanoi

usually i will take overnight sleeper bus between hcmc & dalat...
reach there around 3-4am. just make sure the hotel you wanna stay allows you to check in in the middle of the night

lol yeah it was crowded with joyriders in that month (when the line opened) that i was there.
come to think of it, like sg when the MRT first opened, even when recent new stations opened. in cantonese, "new toilet" phenomenon

The metro had started operating since Dec'24. I did not know the novelty, is still there.
Last yr, it was my 1st time taking the metro at HCM. I was intrigued on how big the enthusiasm was for the locals taking the metro as well.

yah, i was there in Jan 2025, stayed near Ben Thanh station. people would just get on the train for a return trip, just for the experience. pretty much like when the mrt opened in SG

I arrived at Hanoi on 28th February about 4pm. I cleared the customs in about 10min. but I waited for my luggage for 40min.

so it's really up to your own discretion

hi anyone knows which travel insurance bought in sg covers motorcycle riding in VN?

Noting the amendment of ASEAN agreements 9th July 1997 signed in KL on the agreement on the recognition of domestic driving licenses issued by ASEAN countries. (Means SG license can ride in VN without IDP - the IDP issued here not recognized in VN anyways). So technically can ride in VN solely with SG license.

I emailed the embassy there and the MFA here they also ham and haw saying technically can but the police there might not know of recognize the agreement. (you all should see what spf wrote on their website)

So i was wondering if there is a travel insurance that covers motorbiking in VN means can show that to the police and also if got accident also covered.

I think it is better if you ask in a bike forum for Vietnam or Singapore. In the same way that technically you can lawfully ride in Vietnam as per the ASEAN agreement, the facts on the ground may be different when you go into an insurance issue there, as the local police will still have to come in if local property or road-user is involved. Have you ridden there before? The place you rent from will offer insurance and be able to advise. Singapore travel insurance will cover yourself only.

Has anyone book a tour agency package in HCMC but fly in from another country? I plan to book a tour agency package go go Japan but fly in from another country to join my vnb and go together. Not sure agency allow foreigner to book their tour packages or not
