Barely.
Go for bigger - you'll soon find the new TV looking small, so might as well invest in something bigger if your budget allows.

At about 10 feet/3 meters, is 42 inch just barely enough? Im not sure if i can convince my dad about 46 or bigger.

My viewing distance is around 2.6m to 2.7m...
Am using a 37" LCD now...
Can't decide to get a 42" HD Ready or 46" FHD or 50" FHD ....
For 42" or 50" .. I am looking at Plasma.. if 46" will be LCD as don't seem to find
any 46" plasma..
Getting a 42" or 50" plasma seem to be more cost effective then the 46" FHD LCD.
If get 42".. like no different from my 37" at 2.6-2.7m..

Any comment?

Quality / size and value don't usually come together.

If you are on a budget, get the smaller set and sit closer.

Or be prepared to pay.

For me, I think a 46" will look just nice (size) in the living room for that big screen effect. 37/40" just nice for bedroom for that big screen effect too.

As I had said before, when you see the TV at the shops, it may look small, but when you view it at home, it will look huge.

Actually I feel the TV shrinks once you have it for a week, and hence you should get the biggest you can afford. Otherwise you have to live with the size you buy and any regrets you may have.

Can't sit closer as that is how my hall designed..
Budget around $2K, so 50" plasma just nice..

That why I am more on the 50" plasma which value for money..
Unless got good offer of 46" LCD at around $1.3K..

Another thing is that I got 2 kids and they just love to watch their cartoon close to the TV sometime..
My wife said don't buy too big..

Kids are kids, you tell them to sit further away and after 10 mins, you find them back to the same spot again.

Have you consider getting a LED? I tend to find LED screens more comfortable on the eyes, less strain compare to LCD especially when using for long hours.

LED price still on the high side especially 46" n above.
Anyway, I already gotten a 50" FHD Plasma..
Will use it for a few years till LED drop price then change..

My living room wall-to-wall is about 3.3m.
Wall mounted my 46" LED TV. Distance look comfortable.

I imagine that 55" could make it too. It's a matter of preference and of course, the budget available.

But one thing to take note is the type of TV content that you will be watching. If most of the time is SD, then could be a problem on 55" as you will see more imperfections, which could disappoint you since you spend a bomb on it.

From "Home Theatre Aficionado" - Adriana Hamidah..... I think most experienced members in our forum will be able to advise correctly...

However we still have members blindly advising Full HD or buying Full HD without considering what is their viewing diet and distance!

was deciding between

LG 50PK550 FHD plasma and LG 50PJ350 HD plasma

viewing distance would be 3m / 10 feet

should i just get 50PJ350 since i dont see much difference when standing at about 3m between the 2 plasma..

yes, for 50" i think the max distance to resolve full hd is around 2m. thus anything further, a non full hd panel wont give you much advantage (of course, am assuming both has same features and functions).

Need advice from experts here. I am planning to buy a new TV soon for my living room. Viewing distance is only about minimum 2.35m to 2.55m maximum. What is the maximum TV screen size that I should get if I mainly watch free to air TV channels (with SD images) with occasional HD? Tks. Also any recommendation on brand and model? No need 3D. Preferably an internet tv but not most impt. Most impt is picture and sound quality.

You should be able to use a 42-46" TV for SD TV viewing at that distance.

Tks for the quick reply. Will SD images on a TV with 46 inch screen size sharp enough for this distance? Does the sharpness of the image depend very much on the brand and model or distance is the most impt factor? Does plasma tv or LCD/LED make a difference to the picture quality and sharpness? I find 40 inch TV a bit small for viewing enjoyment. Might have to settle for 42 inch. But not many brands have 42 inch. So tempted to go for maximum tv size for this viewing distance.

at about 2m, my 50" plasma tv can display SD (digital channels) well.
