Hi everyone

Finally i have my trip details drafted out.

I will be flying to Beijing in 29/3/2015 to 4/4/2015 ( seven days, sunday to sat)

My flight details as follow:
29/3/2015 - Sunday
Departure by SQ - 1.10am
Arrival (Beijing PEK airport) - 7.25am on Sunday, 29/3

4/4/2015
Departure by SQ - 4.25pm
Arrival (Changi airport) - 10.55pm on Saturday, 4/4

I am booking a room for 3 pax at Hilton Wangfujing for 6 nights. Anyone familiar with this hotel or Wangfujing area? As i am going to use a $1000 travel voucher from Chan brothers, i have to book the flight and hotel from them. Looking at hotel near Wangfujing station. We found 4 hotels close to the station but none of them are in the hotel list selection from Chan brothers. Only Hilton Wangfujing which is around the corner but not the nearest to the station. It is a 5 star hotel and i read plenty of good reviews of this hotel at Tripadvisor SG so decided to choose this hotel.

I also have some questions :

During this period, is spring time in Beijing so anything to take note of?

As it is our first time going there, so want to know abt clearing the Customs there. Such as can bring Valore powerbank? only 6000 mah and is Valore brand is a squarish black powerbank. Wifi wise my hotel has free wifi at lobby but wifi in room got to pay a price. So i am going to buy a VPN from FlyVPN, it should be helpful right?

All tips and opinions are welcome!

Which hotel did you go then? Is it at wangfujing? Just wondering if i reach on sunday morning and check in before the hotel check in time, does tt count as 1 day in advance and hotel gonna charge me by check in before their check in time?

Is it better to arrive Beijing airport at 7 plus in the morning or around 3pm in the afternoon? Hotel check-in time is 2pm though and we can check-in earlier if our room is ready. If not we can park our luggage at the hotel front desk and come back later to collect and check-in.

for 7 plus morning arrival is overnight flight and for afternoon arrival is morning flight. Both are counted as first day and air ticket for SQ is same price.

Any opinion??

Not much difference. You will hit the morning and evening rush/peak hour.

does anyone got an idea the current regulation for bringing powerbank and clearing the beijing capital PEK airport? taking SQ flight to and fro. my power bank is valore, squarish black design and 6000maH. will this be confiscated at the airport customs? if i keep it in luggage and not hand carry will they check?

Also for wifi i am going to buy a vpn to go so that i can use wifi anywhere in beijing and not restricted to use in hotel and room. although the hotel got free wifi and room wifi is chargable at a cost. is this ok?

You don't seem to understand what is a VPN. It doesn't give you wifi or data. VPN is a virtual private network that will allow you to view/use certain programs that are banned in certain places.

Power banks aren't allowed in checked-in bags.

Yeah VPN is a service that needs to ride on an existing Internet connection.

Yeah all power banks/batteries should be kept on your handcarry. Laptop/ipad/phone, please keep in handcarry.

I buy a vpn package before i go, i can only on vpn at places with wifi coverage to use banned apps like facebook. I was mistaken tt vpn can be used anywhere in beijing.

Read some posts here that some got their powerbank confiscated at china customs.depends on luck? Not sure how tt came abt

save it, the internet connection in china can be ******* slow.

when u buy pre-paid sim,
please do not buy china mobile.

you need to buy china unicorn.
so that u can get 3g speed.

as for why take night flight, is because u can save half a day time and also on half a day hotel stay

If you want to use facebook, just apply with the telco for data roaming, that means you pay a fix sum of money per day, to get unlimited data on your local sim card, and with that you can surf facebook in China, i think it cost 20 SGd per day, but to be safe, please contact your local telco to be sure

Ok i am confused. isnt getting VPN the only way to not get blocked using facebook in china? At least tts what i read in most of the forums.

I saw my friend using facebook with his handphone. I ask him, he told me, just pay the local Singapore telco for roaming. And it fix at 20-25 dollars per day. Unlimited data.

Then i have to ask starhub if they do provide such service for use in china...
