It seems okay after I carried out Real Name Authentication again today by uploading the latest Passport photo and with Facial Scan.

Looks like previous verification a few years ago was not successful (only the passport photo uploaded, no facial scan).

Tested with sending and receiving RMB red packets from the existing balance of RMB 213.42 which I had not touched since May 2020 until now.

Yesterday I was using this at a supermarket in a "small" town in South Fujian (home town of Mr Lee Kong Chian). They scanned the payment bar code and there was no issue.

The street vendors here are still mainly using the traditional WeChat Pay QR Code. Some of them also have AliPay QR Code but not all. WeChat Pay is still much more popular here.

link BOC Zaobao dual currency card to WeChat pay and Alipay, if the account has RMB in it, no need conversion. And has 1.5% rebate.

is youtrip or trust a better choice ? im flying on 29 December 2025 to Shanghai as well

Same same, except 1 is debit, another is credit (assuming your trust is cc)... maybe 0.0X different in exchange rates. Dun bother about the small difference unless u planning to buy a house there :D Importantly plan how u going to spend your time in Shanghai, what to eat, etc.

Yes. Opening accounts with ICBC and BOC at SG, does come with debit cards. However, topping up using SG China banks to Alipay and WeChat wallets isn't allowed.

You can't top up rmb directly into the e-wallets using sg bank accounts.
