Stupid. As we get more GPU limited at the resolutions most play these days, I think AMD should be a far greater choice if not the best in time to come. Doesn't even look like there are much IPC changes to the architecture. Only clockspeed increases. To think you need a new motherboard to accommodate another 14nm+++ processor with almost no technological advances on the chipset like PCIE 4.0. Only Intel is capable of **** like this.

From an upgrader standpoint, there is 0 reason to "upgrade" to the latest from Intel. However if someone needs a brand new computer, then may be worth considering on getting the 4xx series board and new Intel chip. My take is that even the top end Z490 board is likely not compatible with Ice Lake desktop chips considering how Intel always tries to pull a fast one on consumers by forcing you to buy a "new" chipset.

I struggle to think why they even bother with a new motherboard requirement for the new 10th generation processors which probably is just adding core count more than anything else. IPC is stagnant and technologically backward not offering native PCIE 4.0 within chipset support. Joke of the year.

From some articles I've read, possible reason why Intel is stuck on 14nm for so long is partly due to their monolithic design ( compared to AMD chiplet approach )

Actually for gaming now, there is almost virtually very little or negligible difference between both camps now as far as frame rates are concerned. And the AMD is a far far better investment over the long run. I don't see any benefit of having an Intel over the AMD anymore after the Ryzen 3000 series. And I seriously hope the 4000 series will nail Intel to the coffin.
