Whatsapp backup

Any idea why all of a sudden whatsapp keep saying preparing to backup? Was still ok last week. I still got 2+ GB space in icloud & my whatsapp back up is less than 100mb.

Tried deleting the entire phone’s current backup from icloud & backup again to i cloud. Tried to toggle whatsapp off from “apps using icloud” screen & back on again. Still no use It just keeps saying preparing & it’s over 10 mins

It was on home wifi & phone connected to charger. Its on iOS 16.2 though I can’t be sure this problem only started after the upgrade or not. For what its worth i clicked on “back up now” button. TIA

Yup. In fact my phone is turned off every night.

you mentioned you delete the icloud backup. did you delete the whatsapp backup?

No not the whatsapp backup. Are you able to back up like now? Cos my cousin just tried also same issue.

Wonder if its anything to do with the end to end sync that 16.2 introduced? Cos my friend’s 16.1.1 no issue. My cousin is 16.1.2 also same problem as me on 16.2.

I am having the same problem as well and I just can't get around it. My only difference with yours is my successful backup was on 12 Nov 2022 but I do not know what actually happens on that day. Frustrating indeed...

I am having the same issue also.
It says backing up but the percentage never changes despite waiting for how long. Tried so many times still the same.

Well at least I’m glad I’m not alone. Tried enabling end to end encrypted chat backup in whatsapp but that didn’t help either.

its whatsapp issue. if you go to appstore and go to whatsapp recent reviews, you can see many complains about it as well.

That's why I'm surprised reddevil said no issues. Strangely, it auto backed up the chats by itself last evening. So I tried a manual back up today & same thing. Says "preparing" and stuck there forever.

1 month passed and WhatsApp did not solve it!
I m setting up my new iPhone tonight. Is there really no way to solve it and I gona lose all my chat history?

Looks like it im afraid. That’s why when it was suggested to delete the chat backups & try again i was like forget it! Bad enough i have an old back up, worse if i have no back up!

Well strangely mine now says backed up 23 dec. So it appears to have done an auto chat backup 2 nights ago. Just tried doing a “back up now” but again “preparing” & stuck there forever. Doesn’t even show % just preparing.

Msged whatsapp for help & got an INSTANT reply that they’re unable to help I replied with a sarcastic reply why bother offering this help service if you send auto rejections?

They then replied looking into it only to say case closed a day later. If not for the fact so many ppl are using whatsapp i rather switch to telegram or even line. Its gone to the dogs after FB bought it over!

erm i doubt so. because if you backup your phone, you will see the entire whatsapp app is actually backed up too.

Including chats meh? Then why have separate option within whatsapp to back up chat? My fear is its two separate back ups.

I know super hassle but rather than risk losing all chats, hilove could considering “export chat” option. Pain in the arse like but boh pian.

take a full backup then restore? yr chats will still be there..
