Update: im beginning to think this is more of a device issue than network issue.

As posted above, I had this problem since I bought the note 2. Did factory reset (in the process of rooting) and problem still persist. The problem occurs as well when connected to my home wifi network.

Problem occurs for a variety of apps that uses push notification of some sort, whatsapp, facebook messenger, google play web install, the app only updates the notification after 15 to 20 minutes, or after I open the app.

I dunno whether it will solve the problem, because it's not clear what's the default values are. On my Nexus devices I get my gmail notifications less than a minute after it sounds off on my desktop, so I think my notifications are working fine without having to use the app.

For those rooted no harm trying lor, see if it makes a difference.

Mi and my wife are using Note 2 and on M1 as well, and I have installed the Push Notification Fixer app on our phones since yesterday.

Leaving the interval default as 5 mins; so far so good. Notification delay has been up to 5 mins; can be as soon as 2-3 mins as well.

Just wanna share my feedback.

Cheers.

Okay I decided to try Samsung's ChatOn. Problem persists.

Used Wi-Fi. Problem persists.

Updated Samsung Apps and signed up for Samsung's Push Service. Problem persists (even in Samsung's very own ChatOn).

I'm at a loss here. I love this phone for everything else but to have push notifications fail so miserably no matter what I try...

It doesn't help that my CO's push service works perfectly -.-

Hi all, installed whatsapp on my S3. But when running the app, I get a pop up that says whatsapp currently doesn't support tablets... Any suggestions on how to get around this? Thanks!

I think the most puzzling thing is that push notifications work perfectly fine on some devices and fail hard on others, and as mentioned above, the failing devices fall into all sorts of categories, making it pretty much impossible at this moment to know what truly causes the notification failure. If it were simply a matter of the default push values on a non-rooted phone, then we shouldn't have non-rooted phones working perfectly fine... But there are.

Sigh.

I'm wondering if I should try to ask for a 1 to 1 exchange with Sammy. Is there a convenient way to back up all the phone's content for a 1-click restoration (without rooting), the way you can Back-Up/Restore in iTunes?

if you use other utilities like killing apps in the background to save memory or batt it can sometime stop notification. but if you try those that have the function to persist the app from killing then it will stay in the background no matter what cleaning tools trying to kill. personally i use cn made app 360 mobile.it have the optional to whitelist which app i want to kill and which i want to keep in background.

If anyone used "system task mgr" to end your programs, take note that it will be force stop.
Even if u reboot up your phone, it will still be force stop until u launch that app again to run.

However, default apps which is from Google, e.g.Google maps, even when force stop now and do a restart, the app will auto run.

Using this method to end the app?

It will still be force stop even after u reboot your phone.
Btw, make sure the "Notifications" is checked. This tick control the app Notification, overwrite the app notification settings. Meaning, this is the "main switch".

Guys, just to share, I finally got so sick of having this problem I sent my Note 2 in to Samsung for repair. Took them just a single day (sent in yesterday, got back today). They said it was a software issue, and they reflashed my firmware. So far, since collection earlier this evening, I haven't encountered this problem anymore.

Up to y'all if you believe their explanation, but it might be worth a try. Could have been just an originally faulty installation of firmware before you got the phone or along those lines. Me, I'm just glad I get all my notifications on time now :s13:
