I cannot verify cos I cannot seem to get my PC to recognise the phone... Might be because of non original cable... Hmmm...

Are u using Windows 10?

If so windows 10 has known bugs detecting MI device.

I got win 10 to detect my MIx once. Then didn't work anymore after that.

Windows 8 supposedly more reliable.

Windows 10, connect to it daily to charge the phone using original cable and xiaomi usb type-c-converter. No issues at all.

Yup Win 10. It's the only personal device I have... Sigh...
I already had to jump thru hoops to even get .net 3.5 to install as prerequisite for Flash tool... Thought I was on the home stretch... Then... S*** happens... Lol...

One more. Thing u can try to do is go phone developer settings enable debugging mode.. I remember when I tried windows 10 I needed to do that and then randomly it worked.

I'm using Windows 8 now (on Mac) and at least the unlock tool is working flawlessly

Tried that. Tried using my work laptop w Win7 and still USB not ID'ed so I think is cable problem. Update again when I get my original cable back from another location.

You might want to try this out. I'm using Windows 10 and below is the solution which solve the issue.

Kedacom USB device problem (new)
For those who received permission to unlock but still stuck, please check out this section. You might be facing problem due to kedacom USB problem especially for those who are using Windows 10 which causes your PC fail to detect device in fastboot mode. Download Mi Flash Here.

1. Boot into fastboot mode (Hold Volume Down+Power), a Mi bunny image will be shown. Plug your device into the computer.
2. Open Device Manager and search for Kedacom USB Device, double click on Android Bootloader Interface, then click Uninstall, tick Delete Driver Software for this device then OK
3. Unplug and reconnect your phone (phone state is still in fastboot mode)

In this stage, you will see that driver is reinstalling and show Android Device as Android Bootloader Interface, once the driver finished updating it will revert back to Kedacom. The Kedacom driver won't allow you to unlock or perform any kind of fastboot commands. To solve this,

4. Double click on Android Bootloader Interface again under Kedacom again
5. Under 'Driver' tab, click Roll Back Driver, press OK

Since the driver is all right now, head towards Mi Unlock Tool and you should be able to unlock without problem now.
