I had a similar problem with my iPhone X last time, but upon opening, not only lag but will freeze then sometimes go into blank screen, but on-screen items still available. Even switching of modes also same problem. Fortunately that time still under warranty and brought it back to Apple, in the end was camera failure and replaced the whole camera module.

My 7 Plus last time was logic board failure as the phone drained batt completely quickly even after a full charge and couldn’t even power on.

If your problem persists, just make a Genius Bar appointment

7+ Should be out of warranty already. So even if go Genius Bar can diagnose for free. Doubt will be worth paying to repair if really got hardware issue

maybe a clean restore might do the trick. Maybe TS can consider

Correct, for me during that time already put of warranty, but at least pay a Genius Bar visit to ascertain the problem. Whatever issue is up to TS to follow up.

If camera issue, they'll replace the camera module but if logic board issue, the whole phone has to be replaced. If it's the latter, might as well buy a new phone.

What do you mean by that? i.e., don't update unless something went wrong hopefully the updated version will fix it?

Might not be the iOS problem
Like very long didn’t update then update once for all maybe can solve the issue?
I don't believe that's how it works. I will say usually latest iOS should fix old bugs. If you are concern whether new iOS introduces major material bugs, can wait a few days to a week see what people say. I think then you will get a clearer picture.
