My Gigabyte board died within 1.5 years. I'm looking for affordable yet reliable. Any recommendation?

Purchase total - SGD1,000

Note that I bought some stuff at a higher price because I missed out on some of the deals.

I expect the total cost for my mobo, gfx card and casing locally to be ~SGD1,000, for a total of SGD2,000. Minus off the mech keyboard and mouse and it'd be SGD1,800.

Does this look like good value to you?

I guess I'm one of those who find that cost savings > warranty.

Got warranty also headache when it comes to troubleshooting, RMA etc. The savings I've made if 1 or 2 items spoil, just buy new ones and still in profit. Don't need to think so much. Also, some of the items I bought have international warranty if i'm not wrong, not that I really care for it.

Only shipping cost is mechanical keyboard and 4670K. Intel blocks off sales outside of US. 4670K will only cost you minimum shipping cost. The rest Amazon ship for free.

Note that mobo also most probably need to ship via your preferred forwarder. ASUS ones are waaaay cheaper on Amazon than SG.

Nope. It is still more ex. Done countless calculations. If you still do not follow Tradepacs Pricelist then of cause you will say it is more expensive to buy local.

But you do a comparison it is still cheaper to get it locally WITH a mobo of cause.

Only one thing you might consider buying from amazon is AMD processor.

Name me one mobo you are looking for and i will do a calculation for you.

The CPU does not ship free to SG. Most likely you are using a forwarder and im pretty sure you did pay shipping for it. And it comes to the same price for the i5-4670k.

And fyi TP is selling $300 for the i5-4670k locally.

Compared to your current give you $287SGD inclusive shipping cost. $300 vs $287 is just $13 away. No doubt you may say it is cheap. But if you are buying a mobo plus CPU bundle in local SLS you get way more discounts then what amazon will offer you.

Interesting. Let me do a tradepac comparison and share my findings. This can be a case study for anyone who may find this of interest. I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to stuff like this.

I know WD can do international warranty. I've worked there before. I also believe Intel can do international warranty in SG?

The only thing I arguably made a mistake on is the CPU + Mobo. I changed my mind on the Gigabyte UD3H which is selling much cheaper in the US. By the way it's not 287, it's 280.

If almost everything is hidden under "offer", it's going to be incredibly difficult to do a comparison.

The only comparison I could do is:

4670k + Gigabyte UD3H
Tradepac: $600
Amazon (incl. shipping): $560
Cost difference: $40

WD Caviar Black 2TB
Tradepac: $191
Amazon: $137.57
Cost difference: $53.43

Overall savings (excl. Tradepac discount if any): $93.43

Take note that UD3H was my first choice, but right now I'm going to adopt a wait-and-see attitude depending on which R9 290 non-ref model I'm getting.

From a basic Google search on Intel CPU, Gigabyte mobo and my knowledge of WD, it is possible to get Intl Warranty. Again, not that I'm too fussed about it, but for those who are interested.

I agree that getting a CPU + Mobo from amazon is arguable despite the minor cost savings, but because this trend continues (based on other price lists from SLS shops) for other components, the cost savings can be rather significant, especially since the best thing SLS has when it comes to pricing is the CPU + Mobo combo.

Steel Series Sensei RAW mouse for example, SLS listed price is $129, I got it for $64.

I am hesitant to do an overall price comparison with specific shops because I don't want to offend any SLS vendors here.

Tradepac will be a shop I'll consider for my GPU, mobo and casing.

The problem with GPU and mobo is that Amazon marks up the price. Americans generally won't buy from them unless it's a proper discount.

If only we have access to Newegg... Might ask an American colleague for help here. Too bad I missed out on some awesome Black Friday Mobo deals there.

I compared some SLS pricelists and calculated that I basically saved ~$300 for my current loots (plus theoretical UD3H mobo), that's about 23% in savings.

This $300 could go into any faulty item(s) in the future. Instead of RMA-ing for a refurbished item and waiting for the turnaround time, I could go for an upgrade instead.

That's true, even with other mobos. Too bad I didn't refer to Tradepac's pricelist previously. I must say that their mobo + CPU combo is competitively priced compared to the others I've seen.

Newegg had some really awesome combos / discounts which, unfortunately, I couldn't pull the trigger on during their Black Friday sale.

I think he's right to the extent where, if you want hassle free purchasing of CPU + Mobo, you can do it in SG for a decent enough price.

Anyway what is done is done already. Lesson learnt for mobo + cpu is still advisable to get from TP.

And fyi if you are getting a full rig, the cpu + mobo on pricelist is not yet finalize.

It still can go lower than that.

My ----> MSI mobo i got $30 off from the list price with a slight bargain.

I should add that for GPUs, the cost savings is also not significant in % terms because of GST. Unless, of course, there's a crazy sale going on and your GPU falls below the SGD400 threshold.
