if you don't need the DVD burner, drop it. especially if you know that you're not gonna be using it... it make your laptop so much lighter since you are using it for school, I am sure you will be carrying it around everytime.

HP envy is definitely a good all-round laptop for casual gamers... if not for the heavy weight of 2.6kg... >.<

i will advise to stay away from ENVY if you are the type who is going to use its recovery partition.

HP refunded me for the notebook (the amount i paid divided by warranty period) because they can't resolve the issue (after 3 months). The recovery partition is practically useless (for my case).

I am on HP ENVY 4-1101TX with Windows 8

is it a permanent problem with their recovery partition? cuz my Hp lappie was a compaq v3500 and whenever I wanna create recovery cd, it will always give me errors...
was that what happened for your case?

For ASUS some model like A45, A55, N series and others are 2 yrs.

guys here.... dont be misled by this comment... I myself is a asus lappie user. I have asus 1215b n asus pro36 and I have visited asus service center several times both the old center opposite Funan and the new one... for many issues.. from battery to ram to screen display issue...

the most serious was screen display which has random flickering lines for my 1215b and that took about 1-2 weeks to resolve because they needed to wait for the replacement part to arrive from Taiwan.
you only able to get replacement on the spot if you're lucky they have the parts for your lappie at that point of time...

I even buy the recovery CD from HP many years back.

guys here.... dont be misled by this comment... I myself is a asus lappie user. I have asus 1215b n asus pro36 and I have visited asus service center several times both the old center opposite Funan and the new one... for many issues.. from battery to ram to screen display issue...

Now at Burn Road, usually is immediately and u can visit them if u do not believe.

as I said... I have visited them many times, so I know.

the only time I was able to get immediate replacement was the trackpad issue on my asus 1215b, because it was a worldwide issue, therefore they stocked up on the replacement parts. other than that, I always had to leave my lappie with them for 1-3 days...

i have no idea. i have other HP models but is fine. Only the Envy is problematic with Win8 in a way. I requested for a new set but they said no.

But my question to them is actually straightfoward (i would say), either a refund or a replacement and they chose the former

I am no sales person, I am a white collar professional. I have used many brands of notebook and would prefer ASUS. My second will be MSI and Lenovo. Beside ASUS, I still have a Lenovo. In my office, I am using HP.
