Thanks FrostWurm for detailed reply. Was very helpful.

@ patryn33 - I was mainly considering if it's worth applying to in the first place since that'll mean putting resources into studying for GMAT, getting recommendation letters and networking for good exit opps. If the potential increase in ROI is not worth in SG context then there's no point considering, though I understand things are probably different in US with wall street and etc. But for now, I'm mainly thinking about working in SG post graduation.

Hi Guys,

I am new here. Looking for MBA advice. . .
Currently i am looking for schools within 40k budget and considering below these 2.

1- University of birmingham ( SIM)
2- Ymca ( Strathclyde Business School)
3- The University of Adelaide

If you guys have better idea, please advice me.
I also welcome anyone who attended above uni for more suggestion.
Thanks.

Adelaide is a great school in the past (full of solid graduates including our ex president) but over the years, totally CMI (ranking tells a lot). Birmingham is ok but Strathclyde is well known for their business school although ranking drops to some extend.

Ranking is a number game and it works well if you know how to play the game. Strathcylde has multiple campus (Dubai, Switzerland and some tied up with Shanghai Jiaotong University). Good to network around as graduate school is about network rather than school

U going there to network or study?
MBA mostly about network, elites will go UK.
If u plan to work in Malaysia ok

Interestingly in Malaysia, a lot of MBA students comes from big companies like Shell, J&J, ....Don’t be surprise their senior management has more potential than those in SG. Interestingly MNCs are not doing so well in SG. Not doing well means little sponsorship for the management to go graduate school and little opportunities for career growth

Graduated from the ie-smu part time program (they call it the blended program) in 2018.

Changed 2 jobs and gotten a 40% pay rise. Though I am unsure if it's due to the program. Wasn't asked about it during intv. Maybe it helped during the shortlisting stage.

hard to correlate degree and salary jump.
I have ppl with SIM UOL degree change 2 jobs.. also get 40% jump. last jump was 20%. maybe outlier.. unless more data points not quantitative

With enough numbers, then a statistical significance can be formed. But I agree that job change is usually the cause of bigger increments, then again, did the degree help in getting the new jobs? Hopefully in some parts...

Change job market rate increment usually ish 15% jump, anything more likely due to the MBA

Usually people will change job after getting the MBA isn’t it

Not so much for the part time students. Many are paid for by their companies. Usually for internal progressions or they are tied to a bond.

But yeah, by large it's true. MBA - job change - pay increment.
