Wow, to me, that's high man, especially for a 'high end' card with just 8GB of VRAM. I think that may become a problem in the future even with DLSS.....
Not even that high lol. If you want to know what's high, i paid $990 for an MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 3x from said shop at SLS back in Feb of 2021 during the height of Crypto. Pervious GPU i owned died on me at the wrong time. His one consider okay price in 2022.

btw were you buying just the card or system? because if system i know some shops do keep 3080 for full rig. that time i had to search quite deep as most shops dont carry anymore. that was during early dec.

if dont care abt nv features like rt or dlss, better to get rx 6800. offers more performance, double the vram and lower power consumption compared to 3070ti. if bizgram price list is right they have a sapphire nitro+ model for 999, which means also cheaper.
