which ryzen 3000 should i get?

Totally get the turned off part, I ended up ordering my Ryzen 5 3600 from Amazon for US$206.86, shipping included. A price that probably won't be seen in SG for some time (that is, if one can even buy the processor alone in the first place), until the SLS retailers decide that the demand hype has died down, and they can't chop carrot head anymore.

Lol, a lot of people here forgotten the 1mth later rule. Wait 1 mth after release, then see the price, see if any bugs or other issues that might surface. But for this case, 2 mths might be better, since the supply might be a bit tight.
Just take the time to do a bit more research.

3700x is a good choice, many 6 core CPUs are close to hitting limits in modern AAA titles especially when paired with a high end GPU.

i'm too lazy to argue.. battlefield V with a rtx 2060 already easily 80+% CPU usage. With high end GPUs it will be a bottleneck.

Sigh, that's why i seldom visit HWZ anymore and prefer reading info about tech on other mediums. Reddit downvote system make people use their head before posting.

The 3600 is cheaper though and better in multithreaded apps plus as a platform the AM4 is supposedly supported till 2020.

3600 oc or 3600x now is the go for value
afterall considering the mb+ram+cpu is still cheaper and that price difference could means getting a tier better gpu for those making whole new rig

the extra threads also means worry free of your background processes
also more capable of recording or streaming game videos if you ever wanted to, with minimum impact to game performance.

At the higher end, you are paying about 20usd per thread. Quite consistent mid to upper range. So actually the 3900x is quite vfm.

Tempted to buy one of these just for fun. Run some // python code or something.

4C/8T CPU we have yet to see it bottlenecking let alone a 6C/12T CPU. Some folks like to talk out of their ASx.

8700k is a 6 cores 12 threads CPU. Although a 3600 is most value for money today, there is a possible use case for 8 cores 16 threads just a few years down the road.

If your workload is just gaming today, 3600 is fantastic value but if you want a little more performance for video encoding/transcoding etc, a 3700X is better and won't need an upgrade in a few years' time.

hi 4c/8t is not enough for some new game you can see bfv 7700k have a lower 1% and for multiplayer game you really wan that extra core. Currently i am using an i7 4770 i have micro stutter in bfv multiplayer. You also have to see the min Fps not just the avg

If you need the 2 extra cores or more of performance today, get the 3700X or 3900X else if just gaming, get the 3600 and upgrade later to a 8 cores or more later for the most bang for the buck.

The question in discussion is whether today's games need more than 6 cores 12 threads. From the benchmarks only Shadows of the Tomb Raider and turn based games have some tangible gains from 8 cores and it ain't much.

If you are comparing to the Ryzen 2X00s, the IPC gains for Ryzen 3X00 make them a better buy for gaming as IPC is most important for gaming.


Anyways a new video from Gamers Nexus if the 3600X is worth the buy over the 3600 for the boost clocks.
