No longer possible to diy it?
I see...

By right DIY should still work.

Proceed at your own risk. YMMV.

1) XGS-PON for WC 3Gbps/10Gbps plan, ZTE F8648P or Nokia XS-240X-A, proven bridging methods.

Manual bridging methods:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...te-f8648p-superadmin-password.6946718/page-12

2) GPON ONR for WC 2.5Gbps plan. No one is talking about bridging recently. You can also use a GPON ONU to replace the ONT.

Huawei HG8244H and HG8240TS, should still be okay to bridge.
Nokia G240G-E : mixed reports
ZTE ZXHN F620 : should still be okay to bridge.

Manually bridging methods, or replacing the ONR with GPON ONU

6) Let's wait for the details of Eight Home Internet. I tend to think it will be a better option than WC and SIMBA, but let's see.

If you need broadband in the immediate future (within 1 year), please don't wait for Eight. This is likely to be a version 1 release and will likely be problematic.

Remember when Simba rolled out its broadband service sometime back? There's great fury over its service, some people are shut out of service for days! It's all documented in HWZ forum! REMEMBER? LOL!

Eight Home Internet will not be a full-fledged ISP, rather it will use Starhub Infrastructure, since it is a wholy owned subsidiary of Starhub.

Agree the infrastructure is shared, but much else is not.

New apps, new billing, newbie technician, newbie customer service representative, changing rules & regulation/terms & condition etc.

I've had enough of GOMO's corner cutting without saving me much money - so much so for being a Singtel subsidiary.

LOL!

Is all that a given?

StarHub already offers "alternate sales channel" home broadband: MyRepublic-branded broadband services. And these StarHub and MyRepublic contract terms frequently vary, so adding another price point and a 360 day/12 cycle contract isn't unusual per se.

I wouldn't presume.

Whizcomm is offering obsolete 1Gbps plan renewal @ $24/mth, still worth considering if you are already on ONT and don't need higher speed.

I think it is 2.5Gbps. Good for recontract.
https://whizcomms.com.sg/2-5gbps-broadband/

For new users, not worth it because of extra cost.
$54.50 WhizComms Installation Fee and $61.04 NetLink Trust Activation Fee apply. Prices are inclusive of prevailing GST.

For recontract, they didn't say what speed tho, gotta assume it is the same 1Gbps.

You can ask for free upgrade to 2.5Gbps if you are not using the ONT mode.

If you are using 1Gbps plan with ONT mode (ONT configured in ONT mode), and you do not want unbridged ONR, then better play safe and stick to 1Gbps.

But there are reports that WC keeps the bridging port while upgrading the user to 2.5Gbps.

Ymmv, 2x wan IP here.
@hkchew03
Check your documents, indicate that contract ended will remain on same plan 1gbps but price increase anot.
Cos price is priority to me, then followed by ont mode then qty of wan ip i can get.

To me, 1gbe is alot alr.

My docs indicate 1gbe boosted to 2.5gbe, rate 24.00 tax incl is maintained after contract ends. This was also affirmed by their marketing rep this year via email.

I make it a point to take down their tnc at point of recontract for comparison just in case dispute arises.

Contacted WC, confirmed still can continue to use bridged ONR after upgrading to 2.5Gbps. Bad news is only 1 port of can be use, effectively you still capped at 1Gbps. Other gigabit port can only be used when you convert to ONR mode.

Have checked with WC, unfortunately for bridged ONR, you can only get 1Gbps out of port 1 even if you are on 2.5Gbps, all other port cannot be used. So it is no difference as current 1Gbps plan with bridge ONR. Only on ONR mode, we can utilise more than 1 gigabit port. Now this makes me probably want to shift to M1 if i want to have more than 1 Gbps.

That is if you ask WC for official bridging.

Unofficial bridging --> one bridged port (1 Gbps) + three unbridged ports (1Gbps for each port), total still 2.5Gbps. But I am not so sure if this is still working or not for all the GPON ONR models due to FW updates. Proceed at your own risk. YMMV.

In fact, that was the report also for users with ONT mode who then upgraded from 1Gbps plan to 2.5Gbps plan. They went to WC office to upgrade (reconfigure the ONT to ONR). The bridged port is still bridged, then the other three bridged ports become functional.

GPON ONR bridging methods are documented in the following thread. Or you can even replaced the GPON ONR with an ONU from Taobao. It is also documented in the thread. Proceed at your own risk. YMMV.

However, no new reports recently as most of the users have moved to XGS-PON based plans. In that case, manual bridging methods are documented mainly in the following thread.
