The soundtracks in The Greatest Showman sounds fantastic with SXFI, it's like watching the stage from the audience seat!
Love it so much!! :s12::s12:

I'm curious about this as well. Would love to go for the mic calibration to make the best out of this device.

At this time, from what we understand, this mic-calib is not open to the public just yet. Maybe in the near future after this whole launch period, then they look into the resources needed.

Paid or free service? Not announcement on this yet also.

Anyway, looks like discussions have kindda died down liao as ppl get on with their lives and either enjoy the SXFI, refunded it, or have it now chucked into the drawer along with other unused gadgets :s22:

From what I know, there are more SXFI users (potential) that are just looking at reviews than to write reviews online themselves.

Nothing really much to discuss, as I think the early adopter should have been settled on what this SXFI is suitable for (you can call own preferences etc).
The correct settings on different platforms have also been recommended by user over here based on the trial and error test/experiences on this device. (1st post)

The rest of the new post will probably be from user that just gotten their hands on this device.

I did ask about mic calibration cost there and off hand one of the staff told me it's gonna be in the range of $400. I have no doubt it's just to dissuade me. But it left a bad aftertaste. So bad I did not buy it even though I originally had the intention to get the additional Teak package.

Yeah. True.

Only challenge is that there's a wealth of info from many of us but it's mostly hidden between the pages or somewhere in the links in Page 1 and most of those new coming in wont' see it or read it. Things like profiles, mapping, headphones, equalizer, windows settings, media player settings, cable adapter choices, etc etc.

Probably no easy solution to this though, just thinking out loud.

The challenge is to collate the DEFINITIVE guide, which is definitely not easy, because the discussions are ongoing, one info from a post may be overturned with new developments from a future post.

Then again, why should we be doing all the legwork when it should be Creative themselves to develop a knowledge base? :s13:

If it's $400 then it probably comes with a free SXFI Amp.

Is this for real? I hope you heard that wrongly. I believed and was also told that the mic calibration is valuable but $400 is shocking for a 5-10 minutes procedure.

My excitement with it died down now after using for weeks and getting so used to it that i can't watch movies without SXFI enabled. Even watching variety shows is better with SXFI haha.

Haha true true. Definitely something Creative should be doing instead of us.

I dunno if that $400 is just a "grab from the air" price but is true that they are considering options for providing this service but biggest challenge is logistics and resources. A pretty big room is needed to accommodate the sound-stage and only 1 person each time can be calibrated. That then becomes quite time-intensive and only a limited number of people can get it done per day.

$400 does sound a bit steep for that but I dunno what type of costs are Creative looking at.

Well, $400 for a mic calibration with SXFI amp meant that the calibration for the amp costs almost as much as another amp.

Paying $200 just to get maybe 85%-95% accuracy compared to 60%-70% accuracy with the phone app is not worth it.

Also, we do not own the mic calibration kit. It's only a one time utility that we gain from it and there's no way to redo the calibration on our own if required.

Yes, there are operating costs for Creative if they provide this service to customers, but if they are asking twice the amount, I will just stick to the app.

Here's the thing. $400 was just a number that was randomly tossed out as "maybe", so we shouldn't start writing as if its that price. For all we know, it could be lower (or, of course, could also be higher).

As for whether it comes with an SXFI bundled, nobody knows. The price paid for mic-calib (assuming there's a price) might just purely be for the service post-sale.

As for accuracy, well up to you to believe, but my app-mapped profile is pretty close to my mic-calib'ed, except the latter accentuates the front L/R speakers slightly more, making them slightly louder. In terms of speaker or directional positioning, both worked quite equally well.
So I would say app-mapped gave me a 80 to 90% while the mic-calib'ed gave me a slight bit extra.

If you can, do another app-mapping with the following:
1. find a bright area
2. your ear/face should be facing the light (tilt your ear/face slightly up toward the light source if you have to)
3. camera-app should be 90 degrees perpendicular to your ear/face (alignment is very important)
4. Make sure no shadows fall over the ear/face from the camera which would be between the ear/face and light source

My biggest improvement actually came from headphone profile selection and EQ-tweaking.
