Why AMD always disappoint

I think there's no disappointment in the upcoming desktop product it should be good without the need to chase a higher core count envelope within a dual channel memory platform. It's just a disappointment with their strategy on relentlessly chasing the small retail processor market (PIB) for far too long when Gartner numbers are on average 60-70+million PC shipments per quarter and there's no question PCs are dominated by notebooks?

By not creating a competitive mobile product (with working switchable graphics aka optimus toggle, manufacturers can run a mobile nvidia card with, good battery life) that brings in big design wins and staying in the near "craptop segment", they're always going to be the very small guy in the client pc segment since it's not going to bring in much more income to build better products in the future. The last iGP that has a working MUXless graphics switching driver was GCN mobile, not mobile vega.

All the major ODMs that bring in volume in China and Taiwan that build laptops for Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus etc. (Wistron, Pegatron, Quanta, Compal etc) are fully backing lakefield and already strengthening Intel's mobile stronghold. What about Picasso? AMD doesn't really need more of mindfactory.de, amazon.com or newegg.com but real wins in notebook product lines instead of just a handful of experimental models.

You heard it here first guys. Jensen Huang thinks the RTX 2080 and below are cards with lousy performance and nothing new. :s13:

I agree. Since it is pretty much just a 1080 Ti from 2 years ago priced at 1080 Ti prices from 2 years ago also. :s22:

"The performance is lousy and there’s nothing new,” for the RTX 2080 as well as the Radeon VII graphics card. :s8:

I wonder if this is going to be a limited run since it uses defective Vega 20 chips. We might find this sold out very quickly if bought for non-gaming purposes.

btw the *** is 64 and not 128 as widely reported.

I actually feel Jensen is very upset because the product is quite unexpected. While people don't feel it is a strong competitor to the existing Nvidia cards, it's going to impact Nvidia's ability to charge exorbitant prices.

NVIDIA and Jensen is doing their usual propaganda again.

The way i see it, NVIDIA is going down in the next 5 years to 19 years or so. Only their gaming business is relevant. Their AI, self driving car, data center etc businesses are all lossing market share. If their gaming department dont bring in the cash, the company will drop 50% share value like Apple did.

Hence, we can see Jensen / NVIDIA desperate attempt at launching an imature, white elephant technology of RTX and DLSS, while at the same time, charging gamers a limb for that. Now they start the usual bashing of the competition so as to cling on to their market share.

AMD made me regret even more when I already regret buying the 2080 at S$1599

The same applies to Nvidia’s RTX 2080 if I go along with what you said. In fact Nvidia is charging us 100 USD more than the Vega 7, also performing close to a GTX 1080 Ti. While DLSS can make it faster, the current state of games that adopted it is still miserably low. Personally, I am more inclined to buy a GTX 1080 Ti recently over a RTX 2080.

Since you already bought is, just use it man. But I will not shell out anymore than 1K for a graphic card. For a RTX 2080 that is just slightly faster than a GTX 1080Ti, there is a significant premium.

Sigh..... i really dont know whats nvidia is doing....

Their 1080ti is great..... but their 2080 and 2080ti sucks big time....

Its not about the performance but rather price/performance ratio.

2080 is so expensive but performs like 1080ti...... yes, there are innovations like dlss, ray tracing and tensor cores. But the biggest problem is that these are proprietary implementations. Your game need to be coded to support these features. So far, there is very little support.

Biggest hype is definitely rtx. Yes nice!! It works!! But spend $2k to play at 1080p?? We are just talking about reflections in bf5......not some game changing cinematic effects.. So far those really nice ray tracing stuff are nothing more than demo, eg. Latest created by nvidia....

Then i feel they are getting a little too greedy....... the flagship 2080ti is now 999 vs 699 for 1080ti......... 2080 is barely faster than 1080ti and its 799??

2060 is probably 600-700 in sg...... hardly a replacement for 1060.

Price about right what. 2080Ti the fastest GeForce card, hence it is going for $999, just like how 1080TI was when it was released. Now after 2yrs of cos 1080Ti drop price. 2080 suppose to exchange blow with 1080/1080Ti hence going for $799.

To be honest, i do like dlss and ray tracing. I feel like rt makes it a lot more lifelike

The only problem is the price. I hope in 3 years rt will become more common and price gets back to normal

If you upgrade from 1080ti to 2080 of cos not worth it. I upgraded from a old gpu to 2080 so I can feel the power. On hindsight though, I wished I had purchased the ti version instead.

Think of it as future proof lor. Now rt not that common but in the future who knows. Its like paying premium for the newest iphone. Since you buy already then enjoy it.

Well true but the advancements are sad. Look at 9 series vs 10 series.

1070 is basically 980ti but cheaper. 1060 6gb is between 970 and 980 performance.

Then rtx come out and 2080 is the same price as 1080ti and performs similarly. 2070 is so expensive that it's not even worth considering if you are using 1070. Performs similarly to 1070ti as well.

Sad.

To say that current rtx card is able to future proof upcoming games with rtx is quite a stretch. Unless you are willing to game at 720 or 1080 or take a massive hit at frame rate.

I guess it is better to buy rtx card only when there are more rtx enabled games in the market and when the gamers will not need to make compromises between frame rate or visual effects.

correct me if im wrong guys

vega 7 gaming performance is equivalent to rtx 2080

rtx 2080 gaming performance is equivalent to gtx 1080ti

vega 7 - $699 (release Feb 2019)
rtx 2080 - $699 (release Sep 2018?)
gtx 1080ti - $550 now? (release March 2017?)

so the only + points for rtx and vega is ray tracing + dlss (how many games we have now?) and 16gb HBM2 (used for........?)

id say both cards are a disappointment

Rtx 2080. price premium for eye candy effects while compromising frame rates. I thought rtx 2080 msrp is $799, not $699

Radeon 7. Smaller price premium ($699) for 16GB HBM2 with 1TB/s bandwidth for professional application such as content creation. It is meant to be a workstation card. Workstation card will suffer a small penalty when use for gaming.

GTX1080Ti. Cant or very difficult to buy new card now? Older process tecnology. Less ram than radeon. Less eye candy features than rtx.
