Why does HWZ admin/mod allow such thread to exist for so long? Even got part 4. It can be seen as an insulting thread and may also been seen as inciting religious disharmony . I am not sure if there is any similar thread like can you be a critical thinker and a Taoist or can you be a critical thinker and a Buddhist or can you be a critical thinker and a civil servant etc.. I urge the admin/mod to review this thread intention and act upon it to be inconsistent with your policies.

Last but not least, if you not happy or disagree with this view, please don't issue warning pts ah. Thanks :o

HI, Thanks for your feedback,
Can I just ask if you have look beyond the title and actually read at the content of the thread?
I cannot say I did and the reason is I cannot recall ever receving any report on that thread.

Just to give u some perspective, we receive on average like 1 report every 5-10 min and sometimes like 30 reports within 5 minutes during peak person so the volume of reports is huge and any innocent post can get a report.
When there is a post that is racist or discriminatory against any religion, we can receive like 3 to 6 reports on the offending post.

The fact that this mega thread can survive for so long without reports say a bit about the content.

I actually took a look inside and what I saw was muslims, christians and others debating matter of doctrine and theology intelligently by quoting scriptures to put forth their arguement in a manner thats quite uncharacteristic of the wider forum.
Its almost an oasis of peace among the war zone of name calling in the other threads.

You can of course report any post that is against religious disharmony if you see them and we will take action accordingly.

Hi, definitely i took a look but the original intention is what it is. Sure the original topics can change to other discussion but the title itself is like attempting to "insult". As you said, this is a mega thread, there was probably reports in the past but get ignored ?. Also I can't find the original thread so it is probably get deleted due to violation of rule? So did you mean if we create thread like can you be a critical thinker and a Taoist or can you be a critical thinker and a Buddhist or can you be a critical thinker and a civil servant etc.. it will not be deleted?

Also I would like to take this opportunity to suggest the mod or admin before issuing warning or deleting thread to go through the content of the thread as the discussion might already change .

thanks for responding to my query

There actually are including by zedmaster labelling a Christian belief as absurd........and insisting on a debate.

I believe he is a Muslim and if I or others would go and find some Quranic text and question it or label it the way he did, this would set the cat amongst the pigeons.

It's time to lock or delete this thread.

wah lao, abit abit also cannot how to have civil discourse?
title simply asked whether critical thought can exist within dogmata in a christian context.
how is it insulting or inciteful?

going by your logic, any thread title that referred to any group of people at all could be seen as inciteful, insulting and hence offensive... :s22:

There is nothing to be gained by having all these religious discussions unless the question is to enquire the meaning of certain beliefs from whatever religion for the sake of understanding what the adherents of that faith believe in.
Unless you can bring someone who has died and come back and tells us which is true or false it's a question of each individual's faith or even lack of faith - atheistic.

There is no 100% correct answer, and however unbelievable you think another's faith is, it's for them to decide, not you to question or criticize.

Any discussions or debates should take place in person between willing participants under clear guidelines.
Not online which can never fully encompass whatever one intends to say, ask or question.
And this can of things can easily spiral out of control.
If really there is a desire then go to each individual's faith designated discussion forums manned by their scholars, who may be willing to address such topics.
Eg: maybe this particular faith's temple or church has a discussion board that is willing to answer questions, go there and discuss.

When you have ordinary laymen forums such as this or Facebook posing questions, it's always a recipe for disaster.
Whatever you may think, this is Singapore (or Asia( and we have seen many instances where things go over the top, and cross the line which leads to charges or worse - enmity and hatred between people. It has happened before and can happen again .I'm not a fan of teh PAP or Shanmugam, but in this area, I think they got it right to err on the side of caution..

Interesting perspective when looking at the broader picture of the thread in relation to other threads in the forum. I agree, though it does get "rowdy" and goes off topic when Muslims step in.

it depends how you phrase it.. given recent behaviour from mod/admin, some thing is just didn't phrase it politically correct and they just delete.. they must be consistent with their behaviour.

There is a very big difference between the Can you be a critical thinker and a Christian at the same time? thread with the others in EDMW.

In that thread, members can discuss constructively and intelligently. There are some intelligent members in there.

The other threads in EDMW are mostly low quality, unconstructive or 1 liner type of posts.

i think the original thread intention is targeted "demeaning and insulting". too bad.. the original thread is gone .. can't check.

other threads low quality? it open to interpretation. and subjective

Come on, i believe most people didn't come to EDMW solely for the "high quality" and "constructive" threads. I think if EDMW becomes such politically correct, highly intellectual, aut delectare aut prodesse kind of salon forum, it would probably lose most of its members.

The randomness, perhaps satirical, ironic, querulous, crude and often downright silly or stupid, is what makes it unique. And because there is such a big mix of users from different backgrounds, with different motivations, a thread can often take a different course. Some turned into a chit-chat thread, others take the direction of a proper civil discourse.

Of course, laws shouldn't be violated. Downright sedition, incitement, contempt of courts, fake news, etc. etc. should not be allowed. But lets all try to be more tolerant and take the more fun and positive interpretation of things. Not every little small thing should be offensive and inciteful.

Of course any thread is welcomed as long as they are within the TOS.

I'm saying the thread brought up by TS has good quality discussion compared to the others. So why shut it down?

And that user posted in here some time ago that he is here to police the forum...........

Well 'mr policeman' is very subjective to police those he disagrees with but is not averse to making disparaging remarks against another faith.
Go look at the other thread about Catholics and Christianity..

I took a look at the original thread and first 120 posts and it seems fine.
it was not deleted but auto prune due to it being an old.
Not saying we didnt had threads that was a bit of religion war in the past but this thread seems fine.
I dun feel the TS is trying provoke anyone but just asking.

We do go through the content of the thread before issuing warning or deleting thread..

If you do note any post that is against the T&C, you can report them.

Well let's see what Dragon says....

I reserve my rights..

I certainly like to understand why terms like Bible being a forgery, believe in zombies in the Bible and Christian beliefs are absurd are acceptable..
