SG can ban chewing gum.
SG can ban Vape.

But cannot ban cigarette.
Littering problem. health problem. Air pollution problem. created more problems than chewing gum and vape combine.

Is it really all about money?

because none of PAP has IRON IN THEM.
If they do so they will offend a lot of people.. including PAP's supporters and society deeply funded by tobacco money..

A lot of people I also mean people from overseas.. a lot of foreigners smoke. and almost every chinese man from china smokes. In China, men can go without alcohol but never without cigarettes.

and also it is not about $. PAP just got 9% GST .. and SG Gov is flushed with $. What PAP wants is FOREVER POWER, forever absolute power. That could probably means they cannot ban smoking.

power at all means..
PAP used to have a policy "growth at all cost" .. ya.. that is partially fulfilled by LHL's open leg immgration policy that saw double digit growth of foreigners for 2 consecutive years in 2007 and 2008 (go check census).... that was the time when cheap labor flood into SG and Malaysians and even mainland Chinese (esp those who studied in SG), get PR with 3 months.. AND , PR can buy flat DIRECT from HDB.

Will it really crash the tourism?

Or boost tourism? When people hear SG is a no smoking country. More people might want to come SG.

Brother you are rather strange.

You don't drive, yet you asked why cannot change all cars to EV. You don't smoke, yet you asked why not ban smoking.

Do you drink? Why not ban alcohol?

So what do you do normally? KTV? How about you start a thread asking why not ban KTV?

If you don't drive, don't smoke, don't drink, don't go ktv or drinking, what are you living for? If others enjoying all those, why would you want to deny others? Isn't that a selfish thinking?

The key learning point is that PAP only changed policy when they lost Aljunied GRC and George Yeo is given the greatest career boost after that. LKY offered Yeo top job at GLC but Yeo turned down....

That why power speaks to power. For PAP who has absolute power, the only way for PAP to listen is to have another party with enough real power - unfortunately that means PAP has to lose parliament seats i.e. lose power since politic is a zero sum game....
