If not for air-con, SG is almost UN-liveable. Can you imagine if all our public transport, shopping malls & office buildings have no air-con? I can guarantee our tourism will fall by 90% or more. No body in their right mind will wish to live in such a punishing environment

It does, indeed. But back during his time, the climate isn't as extreme nor inhospitable as now. Our buses only went full aircon in the 2010s (remember the "old" 2-axle Volvo Olympian double-deckers plying 74?; imagine taking it for the full journey in the afternoon).
