Replacing my home routers - 3br hdb bro

current set up is 1 x Asus ax 1800 in db box (wifi turned off) - connected via ethernet to study room computer and another connection to living room for asus ax88 acting as AP for wifi around the house. WiFi is not that great in master room since router is nearer to kitchen than rooms which is fine, I still get 2-3 bars.

I am thinking of going wifi7 to replace my aging routers. I tried googling and most routers seem to feature only 1 10g port.

what should I get so that my living room router can support 10g for wifi throughout the house and my study room pc can also receive 10g through its ethernet port?

I haven’t signed up for my 10g though but likely will recon thru m1.
If you sign up for 10gbps plan from M1, you can grab the BT10 bundle. That has 2 x 10gbps ports on each unit. You can continue to use the ax88u on any other data point in the house for additional wifi coverage. You will need to purchase a 10gbe pcie card for your PC to maximise the higher broadband speed.

Would those usbc adapters work for 10gbps ethernet? They cost about 200-300 bucks

How stable are they compared to a pcie one since my pci slot is blocked by my case fans

otherwise maybe upgrading my motherboard would make better sense..

Since I will be placing 1 bt10 inside the db box, and the bt10 only has 2 10gb port, i will not be able to have 10gbps connections to both the second node and my computer right as 1 of the ports has to be used for wan

There are 2 x 10g port on each bt10. on the main node, 1 goes to modem and the other connects 2nd bt10. You still have 1 x 10g port left for your PC on the 2nd bt10

Sorry if it sounds like a silly question , but does this work by any chance

in db box modem > bt10 (node 1) 10g wan
Bt10(node 1)10gb lan > switch > patch panel

patch panel > living room bt10 (node 2)
Patch panel > study room pc

USB c alone does not guarantee speed. Both the port and device needs to be thunderbolt 3/4 or usb c 10g capable to max out the speed.

Question, the lan ports of the switch are 1, 2.5 or 10gbe ? That will determine the speed you can get at bt10 node 2 & study pc

I intend to get a 10g switch so can I safely assume it’s 10g?

seems like m1 10g provides the best solution for me at $50 per month for now. I might just go for that

Would I face any issues using Xiaomi BE7000 from China seeing how good the price is there? As I'm planning on getting a wifi 7 USB adapter soon.

It is an okay option with a powerful CPU. But take note China WiFi 7 routers have no 6GHz band.

But you may also compare with local models like TP-Link HB710 (Starhub, S$192 from Starhub. BNIB units can be even cheaper from Carousell), with dual 10G ports and triband BE18000.

Personally I feel the cost of local version of HB710 and Archer BE805 may make it not really worth buying mid-range and high range China WiFi 7 routers.

ohhhh, totally forgot about carousell. I'll go check it out. But USB adapter my main priority for now.
Shocked to see HB710 price this low, comparable to the BE7000 from China  Glad I asked over here before plunging in.

Just got Singtel 5Gbps plan, but they gave a wifi 6 router. So would the most cost effective way to get wifi 7 router be to buy a HB710 from carousell?

Yes, for a 10Gbps capable WiFi 7 router with 6GHz band.
thanks. Do you think I should spend more on BE805 or EB810v for better wifi performance? Currently am getting bad connection in the further bedroom on an Archer AX72.

You may want to post the floor plan with details of the location of the FTP, room LAN ports if any, as well as location of the TP-Link Archer AX72.

Some floor plans just make it very difficult or impossible to cover effectively with a single wireless router. In that case, two HB710 nodes may be the better option than single TP-Link Archer BE805 or TP-Link EB810v.

Update Post #5 on China WiFi 7 routers (no 6GHz band) to mention the following.

Other than Asus China WiFi 7 routers, it is a bit difficult to recommend China WiFi 7 routers now, at least not for the mid-range ones, since TP-Link HB710 (dumped by Starhub users, S$192 or lower) and Archer BE805 (dumped by M1 users, below S$300) local versions with 10G ports and 6GHz band can be pretty cost effective.

Am currently using Xiaomi BE7000 with M1 1Gpbs plan. Now I’m planning to renew my M1 contract with either the 3Gbps with free router or 6 Gbps with free BE805

Can I ask for suggestion whether it will be worthwhile to replace the BE7000 with the Archer BE805?
If it is better to keep the BE7000, then I probably should opt for the 3 Gbps plan.

I previously used Xiaomi 6000 and the 2.4ghz wifi coverage was much better.
Now the BE7000 coverage is a hit n miss to my MBR.
