Starhub issued HB710 mesh solution user experience: two nodes with wireless backhaul.

No LAN ports in the rooms, so wireless backhaul is used.

Your house is the same design as my house. I called CS to apply for the 5gbps ONT. I ask for top up $16 x 24 months to get 2 Hb710 as well as Imy house don't have wired backhaul since is those old 5 Rm type.

What I did is pull a flat cat 7 lan cable from my Fibre point to the main router. I am getting average 4.2 - 4.5 gbps on lan cable for my PC in study room.

Previously I was having a single Tplink AX 11000 at the same main router location. My wireless speed at the furthest part of bedroom 2/3 and kitchen is around 200-300 mbps, living room around 300-400mbps.

With the below 2 x Hb710 setup, I am getting 700-1gbps in living room and rest as shown.

Hopefully this give a reference to all how Tplink HB710 perform. Cos I believe for $384 dollars for 2 HB710, this is the most cost effective solution for many HDB house already (if you are using mostly wireless). For those looking at wired, can you can consider Eb810 + Hb 710 config.

A single $500++-$700+ router at my current router location may not even get this kind of performance, so I guess this is the best option for me.

So far Hb710 has been relatively stable. No single disconnection since the last 2 weeks.

No lah, the map is not my map. I just tong pang Zippara map since I realise his flat floor plan is exactly the same design as my flat floor plan (and around same size). Mine is older flat built before 2012 with no ethernet cable connected from fibre point to all the room. There is not databox. Just one stupid fibrepoint at the hall.

Hence I need to pull a cat 7 cable all the way from the fibre point to my main router area. My lan cable is routed along the side of my cupboard and hidden false ceiling hence it is hardly visible. So aesthetically no issue.

So your description is correct.
ONT -->Ethernet cable --> Main HB710 10G WAN port (in study room)
Main HB710 10G LAN port --> PC in study room - PC has a 10 Gbps ethernet card (TPlink).
2nd main HB710 -- wireless backhaul --> second HB710 in the kitchen area.

For this flat, the weak signal is at the kitchen. So having a 2nd HB710 at sort of cover the weak spot. In fact the main router in study room is quite good. I can still receive signal even when 5 metre outside the house door.

For my test set (with speed shown in red around the house), I am using Samsung S23 Ultra (does not fully support wifi 7) to test the signal around the house. I believe this is not the optimal speed yet. The speed I guess, will be even higher when I upgrade my tablet and mobilephone to wifi 7 set in future.

When tested using iPad 10, I can easily get average 500-600 mbps around the house. 400-500 mbps with ipad 10 at those weaker areas. Previously with TPlink AX11000 (1 router at current main router area), I am getting 200-300mbps for those weak spot.

So far quite happy with SH 5 Ghz with 2 HB710. For this kind of price and wireless/wired speed, where to find.

After reading and research online, it seems that is model won’t be staying for long.
Have to search for alternative before the taobao sale end. Otherwise is Asus xt8 used units

Have you use anything similar to this? i find it a waste to put my router inside the DB box area.
There are many of these unbranded switches i.e. 2x2.5Gbps + 1x10Gbps SFP on Shopee for about $45

This is just a switch and not a router. What is the connection do you have in mind?

ONT --> unmanaged switch --> router ===> this will not work.

Ugreen/Xiaomi are not the popular brands here even though they have the offering. But they should be fine as well (only unmanaged switch).

More popular China brands are Hasivo and XikeStor.

I am using two Hasivo switches in my current setup.

I’m a noob on broadband/routers/AP stuff, saw that HB710 can be bought from SH for $192 for walk-in customers. If i’m on Singtel ONR now, am i able to use this router as my main AP or mesh node to a Singtel HB810, and will it be able to continue receiving firmware updates?

My understanding is the ISP, and not TPLink, is the one that pushes down updates (via Aginet?) for such ISP-exclusive routers, is that correct?

Note that you probably have to have the NRIC number of a Starhub 5 or 10Gbps user to buy the HB710 at Starhub retail stores. Someone reported they bought without, but I had to provide one.

The HB710 has AP mode, so you should be able to connect it to the LAN port of your Singtel ONR to extend the network.

To mesh the HB710, you need another EasyMesh capable TP-Link router. I have done this with my BE230

There was some well intentioned suggestion earlier that retail TP-Link routers like the BE230 might not mesh well with TP-Link Aginet service provider routers like the HB710 and 810, but the HB710 worked for me easily.

The moment I connected the HB710 to my MR BB, it did a firmware update. You can also manually update through the WEB interface. I have not installed the Aginet app

I have very simple needs in smallish aptmt with 5gbps starhub subscription installing today. Just want minimum 2 x 2.5G ports will do. Going to pull trigger on ZTE BE5100 Pro+ (S$65 shipped from taobao) to replace ax3 pro. So just want to check with experts that I've not missed any better alternatives at this price range.

Thanks in advance.

I don't recommend this one because it has only 256MB RAM. But if you do not have many devices it may well work for you.

At the S$65 price range, hard to get good ones.

You can refer to Post #5 for my recommendations of China WiFi 7 routers, but they are in general more expensive (RMB 499 or higher usual price, offer price may be a bit cheaper, need to add GST and shipping charges).

Thanks xiaofan! Yes I've read that and maybe a hundred other posts, mainly yours. You're such a saint to put in so much effort and patience helping others.

ax3pro also has 256mb ram and worked fine for me so should be alright in that respect (i think.. i hope..). ok I'll reconsider try to bump it up a notch just in case.

currently the setup is the ont --> tuf ax6000 (inside DB compartment)--> lyra trio connected to living room, common room and master bedroom lan port.

trying to find used asus XD6 or XT8 to replace the lyra trio.

the tuf ax6000 put inside DB compartment is a waste i find it because i need to link to all the rooms internet port so i was thinking possible to use the switch for purpose. then i can use router to place at all the network ports in all the rooms including living room.

Just walked away with one HB710 from nex, nothing is asked, no phone number, address or ic verification.

I had just signed up for the $29.55 SH 5gbps plan and also opted for the HB710 for $8 per month but am now having second thoughts on the HB710.

My intention is to use the HB710 as an AP in a bedroom near centre of the house using wired backhaul. My main router will be a N100 mini pc running pfsense sfp+ port →hasivo 10gbp switch with 2 sfp+ ports→HB710.

My question is, would it be better for heat and power consumption if I wait to get my hands on a wifi 7 AP with sfp+ port?

Thanks!

I have not seen any access point with SFP/SFP+ port yet. So far i see is come with RJ45 port.

This is a beta FW and not available to the public. I also do not have it.

Edit: sorry I mixed up with the other FW. I think you should be able to get it. Just be a bit patient and wait for a few days to see if your router gets the update. You may want to leave automatic FW updates option as ON.

Is the Asus bt10 much better than tp link hb710?

New sign up for small 4rm resale hdb and considering between m1 6gbps w BT10 or starhub 5gbps ONT + 2x hb710 (thanks to @xiaofan advice). Will use wired back haul.

The bt10 effectively costs ~$720 while dual hb710s cost $384. Wall penetration coverage more important than theoretical max speed for me. If the coverage is quite similar then maybe get hb710 better
