It’s not a loophole, it’s law. You don’t apply law retroactively, otherwise how is anyone supposed to follow the law when you don’t even know what is legal now that will be made illegal 2 years later and you get punished retroactively?

Pay of CEOs are decided by market, and usually more than 90% of their pay are in stock component tied to their performance and which they can’t sell easily, but is something news articles like to use as though it’s cash figure for click bait.

As shareholder, I rather than company pay top dollars for the top ceo, because that is going to make money for me. For example, if Elon musk ever decide to step down, Tesla is going to lose 50b in market value. So yes I don’t mind paying him 1-200m a year, it’s a bargain in fact.

What do you consider as "obscene"? 3m a year is obscene? My director already make more than that. It's not that high for the responsibilities a CEO of a listed company has to take. If SPH stock is soaring, I would expect him to be paid at least 10-20m. So yes, 3m is because his performance is not as good as expected. And really, something like a traditional media company not many qualified people will want to become CEO. No one wants to head a sinking ship and ruin their reputation. If you don't try to pay at least a decent pay, you are going to get someone worse.

Already planning my semiretirement plan to my JB house....I want to make money work for me not I work for money....

My properties that I enjoy living in will make money for me while I live and sleep in them...

Want money to work for you, not you work for money. Very good idea, but it is this exact mindset that causes the poor not getting any help from the rich. It is like telling the poor to go eat themselves

The poor has to work for money first of course and save and invest to let money work for them.....

I do not belong to the poor hence nothing wrong with me having this mindset....

Many middle income Sinkies like me can actually retire in a low cost country even right now....just requires a change in mindset....our biggest assets which is our Sg property enables us to retire...just not in Sg but in another country....

I am not proposing such ideas for fun....I seriously believe there should be minimum living wages for Singaporean citizens and that CEOs obscene pay should be capped to help to pay for it....and the top 5% of the wealthiest people in Sg can pay a wealth cum donation cum charity tax to pay for it....it would help to bridge the gaping income divide between the wealthy and the poor....

Instead of an ever increasing GST that squeezes the middle income majority of the electorate disproportionately.....

sure. cap CEO pay so that they will be remunerated via stocks/equity instead. that way they won't even have to pay tax on the gains when selling their company shares. CEOs love mummy5678

The key question which needs to be answered and which is not available is, how much are non residents and PRs who not working propping up the property market?

significant number of london's apartments are used to wash expensive laundry. the fees raised from cleaning are perhaps not redistributed to the have nots in england though who bore the brunt of price hikes and increased wage competition from eu integration. If the property taxes in london are raised, there might be a capital flight
