Looks like human race is doomed, unless we adopt socialism.

Socialism is more stupid than capitalism

Just look at venezuela

The ppl live in paradise about 10yrs before it turn into living nightmare

Is like smoking cocaine to get high for 5mins then die like dog the next day

I thought we are already going for self help kiosks ?

Because we don’t have enough labor !

The introduction of self-help kiosk in USA also lead up to effect in SG...

Say nice is not enough labour, streamline the production process

Partly also political reason la, if HQ in The States do, Singapore also has to follow.

Even though recently SG is now called 汉堡包。 from arab change to china ownership

But ya dun be surprised if more and more self-help kiosk etc. The population is expected to be 47% of people 60s and above for SG in 2030. Quite horrifying population statistics ageing population

Then don’t hire maid. Then u will reply families will die without maid right ?

U can employ part time cleaners which is common now and that don’t cost 2-3k a month. U don’t need 24 hours standby service in your house right ?

I bet u r those who go army need maid to carry your bag or next time your son will be

When you have kids 3yo and below and both parents need to work to supplement income and parent in law not willing to help.

You are using numbers that you make up to suit your arguments...

If you want to argue using that, then a worker carrying 10 bags of rice each day can still carry 15 bags a day.

Profit will decrease but not to the extent of nothing at all. And with some players out of the market, ur profit might even increase if u innovate or u have some advantage over others.

U trying to say all businesses will close down?

:)

Ok reduce price to attract more customers.

So let's say 100 more SG customers: total 150 SG customers.

Reduce price to $4.

So $4x150 = $600 revenue

Revenue increase 20%.
Workload increase 50% due to more customers.

Need to hire worker at minimum wage.
Is the business sustainable or better to close down?

:)

There is childcare and already part time cleaners. If parents can’t take care of kids for the bare few hours during weekdays and weekends, what kind of family is this?

I bet your child see your maid closer to him than you are with him.

If goes by your argument, why don’t I see whole singapore or whole world having maid? A lot of ppl falls under the scenario u mentioned.

If you need 24 hours standby service, u pay the premium.

Regardless, the topic of this thread is referring to the low wages job in general.

You cannot just use maid to justify this whole economy don’t need minimum wages.

The reason why companies can 薄利多銷 is through "exploitation" of workers up to a certain extent.
"Exploit" by paying low salary or giving lots of responsibilities or a mix.

You implement minimum wage, see your valueshop increase price or not.

Nice write up.

Not sure if this is applicable to all countries.

Singapore situation has been productivity is not increasing despite the text book recommendation of increasing the skills of workers. Government do this by encouraging taking up more certs.

In the pmet, foreigners are favored because they r skilled.

In the low wage scenario, foreigners are favored because they are cheap.

Singapore is also going towards being lesser labor intensive as u can see self help kiosks etc coming up.

Singaporeans are turning to being delivery man.

Minimum wages decrease demand of labour is good. Because we can cut down foreigners!

That’s the aim isn’t it.

Yes that’s why I say we all adjust our spending patterns etc

Demand and supply will dictates the price ultimately.

If everyone insists on getting something regardless of the price, prices will increase in the end too.

Despite cheap labor coming in to sg, have you seen things getting cheaper compared to years ago before the foreigners influx ?

Or did things get more expensive because more demand due to more ppl wanting it ?

Remember one thing: businesses will always pass on the costs to consumers

The apprenticeship and midcareer switch initiatives by government doesnt work at all somemore.

jobs in singpare all taken up by filipino, indian, malaysian.

Honestly, singpaorean just drive grabfood only or poly / full time low cost intern.

Andrew Yang fail already.
Univeral Basic Income cannot work until we have robots doing full automation.

A few country tried out selective Universal Basic Income experiment, in the end all closed.

Without full machine automation,
Universal Basic Income will just lead to increase in cost for everyone to offset the more expensive man power.

UBI is a more interesting concept, since minimum wages in reality wouldn't work.

It's becoming more and more of a reality since big tech companies like Google, Facebook etc. Are fervently advocating it.

Andrew Yang had some interesting insights, man the speed of his intelligence and brain. Quite a fervent orator, but really charismatic to hear him.

I don't think they need to.

Google interns get $7k USD per month if you are selected out of thousands worldwide.

And the exposure to the technology, intelligence of colleagues you can bounce ideas off too. Even their interviews are so unique goddamnit HAHA

Cluster**** of near-genuises

Even the receptionist needs to have a degree to work there.

Talking about US google ba, Singapore google not sure.
