This is true.
Less profit means less cashflow.
Those get cut only add to unemployment, company no problem.

:)

They cant cut.
If they cut, they have lower output, lower sales and even lower profits lol.
So, they wont cut because they need people to do the work.

Their profit margin will lessen with min wage.

U juz bullshiatting because min wage helps others but your stocks, investments, etc will suffer abit due to it...

There will be a limit to wat profits they can earn with higher min wage cost.

Anyways, companies that pay minimum wage are not ***** companies we want anyways lol.
Such low tech simple company bosses should not earn much.

Majority of sinkies wont be affected by this i believe.

Mcdonalds?
KFC?
Hawkers?
You sure you dont want these "*****" companies?

Majority of sinkies will definitely be affected by this. Expect hawker price to go up. I am ok with that, as long as hawker culture is preserved.

Extra cost always come from someone's pocket, be it customer or owner profit

Set min wage at the low amount for small sme but higher amount for mnc, need to find tipping point where it will not force small sme to close down, Gov should provide some grant for the small sme to boost productivity, low wages worker mostly spent on essential stuff hence this will circulate back to the economy

So, u think those people should earn that shiat amount per hour??

I rather help the poor although yeah, my stock portfolio will appreciate less too...lower dividends etc.

It will come from both customer and owner.

Actually this is easily do-able la.
I suspect that our people in power would benefit personally if no min wage, so, they dont want it....

I mean those ministers arent poor lol.
They probably have stocks, etc assets.

Say first i really like WP

But If we increase minimum wage, doesn’t it mean that if we go macs and all, the price will also increase?

It appears to me the people who really will benefit are people who go JB or batam to spend, or those FT and S pass workers.

First off why should the price of Macs go up because of minimum wage? They already pay their full time staff more than minimum wage..

But even if the price of a burger goes up by a bit.. are you saying that's more impt to your than helping low wage earners bring home enough salary such that they don't have to sacrifice buying new school uniforms for their children or sending their aged parents to the doctor?

Don't forget we are talking about minimum wage.. we are talking about people who earn so little that every month is a struggle to put food on the table and who can't stomach any kind of unexpected expenses.

Whose children have to lose out on school trips and educational supplies because daddy and mommy can't afford it..

You going to tell these group of people that they won't get more pay because you don't want your burger to cost more?

i'm thinking of food industry. they mostly use cheap labour and most of their processes require manual work

And do u think it is fair that we pay those labor so little.

One major problem is rents too high and keep rising.

Sometimes i wonder if it is some rich group cartel lol

Pay workers more.
Biz will suffer.
Less biz.
Owners profit margin and rents will adjust lower and biz will return, though possibly abit lesser.

By right this is the way...but sg, rental abiy magical lol. Gotta set rules to penalize those who refuse to lower rental and keep rather keep the propertt vacant.

imagine a kopitam can sell food very cheap cause they pay peanuts to the cleaner aunty. but if they need to pay cleaner aunty more money then they will need to raise the price of food.

think about it. that means the only reason the food is so cheap is because they are exploiting the aunty. while all your rich ppl and middle income ppl are enjoying cheap food, the poor cleaning aunty needs to work long hours just to earn a pitiful amount. it is only cheap because the cleaner aunty is subsidizing the cost with her cheap labour.

so let's say we pay her minimum wage. how much can it cost the company? remember she's already earning MINIMUM. NOBODY earns less than the cleaner aunty.

let's say the price goes up because kopitiam needs to pay cleaner aunty more. if business is not affected, then clearly singaporeans are rich enough anyway for it to not matter. shouldn't we redistribute our income for it to be fairer?

if the price goes up and business suffers, then clearly the business model got problem to begin with. then it's time for the business to figure out how to cut costs and figure out the other inefficiencies. don't tell me a business will suddenly fail because you cannot exploit cheap workers anymore.

all in all, the worst case scenario is usually, the rich ppl earn less money that's all. who the fug cares about them?

Yep, u have heart.
Food has to be reasonably priced without exploiting cleaner aunties...

Rental is the magic that somehow dont come down lol...this needs laws to penalize it.

Developers leave flata vacant = get penalties.

Rental stalls, etc = should be the same.

Among other laws.

It's actually very simple to understand. Someone needs to pay for the increased if there's a min wage. If not the middle class then it's the upper class, or both. However, since it hurts the middle class more than the upper class, and it forms the bigger part of our society, it makes sense that it is paid much more by the upper class. However, in a capitalist society, if u pinch the upper class, they'll just pay lower salaries to the middle class, and so it'll be back to square one. Another way could be via a slight increase in taxes for the upper class so that it'll be used to fund the min wage. But since our gov belongs to this upper class they'll rather not do anything.

It will help the lowest tier group.

You don't see how it will help simply because you don't belong there and do not understand the struggle of bread and butter

Let me put it in prospective

How is it going to help

Economist calculate the poverty line is $1200/mth

A dishwasher aunty in her 60 work 6 days a week 8 hrs a day drawing $900 salaries .. with minimum wage u can enforce the company to pay her $1200 to get her out of poverty ..
So extra $300 who paid ~ that the debate : do the company pay or gahment pay by reducing business taxes or pass the increase to consumer .
And we are likely to pass the cost to the consumer .. which mean ur coffee shop meal will increase ...

If we don’t have minimum wages , business will usually employ lower cost to maximize profit .. there is where foreigner worker come in .. the boss will have to count weather to employ local aunty or get a foreigner worker who willing to work cheaper . So the aunty have to agree to work at $900 or else How would she compete with the foreign worker Who is younger and willing to take much less .

So that aunty could never able to get out of poverty

So we ask ourselves - do we want our mee pok to cost extra 50 cents ?
No we probably would do not want cost to go up ... the aunty can stay poor none of my fault .. everything in Singapore is already expensive ..

How are we going to solved this ...?

We just have to drag for another 30 years pretend no such problem exist .. when gen y replace them .. they should be higher educated .. may able to find job with that pay higher when they are older .. let all dishwasher be foreign workers

I think its safe to say majority of SME are the worst culprits when it comes to paying salaries.

Instead of min wage.

What about giving a range of amount periodically depending on their age and qualifying income to the elder worker without them having to apply for it etc? Don't ask me where the money gonna come from, they gonna raise gst anyway eventually.
