Many of the MPs of PAP came from elite families with businesses and some have portfolios in companies.

if we have have min wage = bad for bosses and companies higher labour cost and lower profit margins.

I guess the question then is whether min wage will achieve the objective of making life livable for the blue-collar workers or will it remain insufficient.

PWM is reasonable on paper but I believe it is not going to work irl. Currently with only 3 industries, there are 3 different flowcharts. It adds complexity and bureaucracy.

A reference why it is a bad idea and the ensuing result would be to look at SIRS and WSP. Look at amount of confusion, frustration, appeals, trying to game the system, jjww. There is also the circuit breaker and phase 2 rules which causes lots of confusion and frustration.

Now imagine those confusion, frustration and gaming of system multiply by all the industries and it will be a sh*tstorm.

Might not be the effect of capitalism per se. Technological advances have the impact of hollowing out the middle class as technology gradually replaces jobs that requires low level of cognitive ability and is easy to automate. Many of lower end jobs are manual in nature and the cost for technology to replace can be high.

Actually they do use the machine. Some mcD are even machine only and you collect food, this is developed country.

Even developing country like Indonesia (minimum wage country), implemented the machines about 2-3 years before Singapore.

Anyway this is just a fast food example, in Singapore's context argument for minimum wage is more towards certain jobs really pay very low until nobody wants to work. Govt is somehow implementing minimum wage for certain jobs now.

But to have a blanket minimum wage i think Sg employers for now not ready yet.

it's ok. i don't get money from HWZ elaborating what goes behind whether there should or should not be minimum wage.

fast food is just one small chunk, the bigger concern is how there is a greater push towards automation now since minimum wage is rising faster than worker's productivity and corporate growth in general.

this is not the only facet about minimum wage, there are political and lobbies on both sides to look at too but not going to type a long essay here.
