Google can't lock me into their ecosystem. I can live without Google. Learn how not to put all your eggs in one basket. I support more competition to break Google monopoly.

Maybe now is huawei don't want to work with google. Lol

I think they could keep HMS to within China since China already ban Google apps anyway.

And they can still have GMS for their international customers.

Best of both, no need to just have one.

It's not that they have a choice since the American government is waging a war to destroy them by preventing them from using Google components.

no lah my response is to the previous post by mdax23 about Huawei not wanting to work with google...

if they have a choice they should still work with google... for their non-China customers (like us). severing ties with Google will only limit their outreach beyond China.

I can't even find basic Singapore banking apps like UOB in their app gallery now. how to use their phones if it's on HMS? don't tell me to use browser to login, that is not what smart phones are for.

In this case, put the eggs into iOS and Google equally. I do not want to repeat Win OS phone experience again.

China did not ban google apps. Those who has phone using data roaming service will know they can continue to use their google apps.

Nothing wrong with putting all eggs in 1 basket if the basket is good for me. Ecosystem is there for the user comfort and experience. I don't wanna split my experiences across different platforms resulting in more troubles for myself. You are learning the wrong thing. FYI, I'm using both iOS and Android. So I know the troubles of maintaining multiple ecosystems. Not going to add another one to my list, especially one which does not seem to be promising at all.

Whatever.. You have a bad habit of trying to win the argument every time.

I don't use Apple products. I am still on Android. So its fine with me..

I'm stating my views. Since you are staying with android, continue with Google is the safest way to go. Why waste time and resources with a new OS and app store? I wouldn't want the Great Firewall of China in my phone.

although all this brouhaha has exposed the Android world's Google lock in... even though Android is supposed to be "open". the biggest issue here I believe is not just the Google Play Store but certain applications' dependence on Google services like maps and Firebase messaging. These apps won't work without it, or will be severely impaired (like running WhatsApp on a phone without GMS).

Banking apps will need to go through a rigorous security testing before they get deployed. So generally it will take longer than usual apps/ games to get ported over even though the underlying OS is still Android.

As to Huawei wanting to work with Google, I think it is a matter of time before they abandon Google. China already have plans for them to decouple themselves from foreign technology. In the short term, they will surely want to continue to partnership to maintain their bottom line. With the case of ZTE and this current Huawei ban, the government will surely not want to have any reliance on US companies, including Google (Android). So while it is going to be a rough journey for Huawei to start HMS, whether you like it or not, it will happen. Unlike Microsoft mobile OS which is a company initiative, HMS is backed by China and all the chinese mobile manufacturers. So success rate is almost certain. The loser here will ultimately be Google since they will lose a huge chunk of revenue without the chinese phone makers. This basically leaves Samsung as being the biggest Android user without the likes of Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi.

The stupid Chinese just blindly follow patriotism trends lah. People use Whatsapp, they use Wechat. People use Twitter, they use Weibo. People use Google, they use Baidu.

They just want to prove they can live their lives based on copycat ideas and survive on their own.

I think you failed to understand the reason why China have their own apps. I actually don't think it is something they want, but rather enforced on them so that the government have absolute control. If you have been to China, none of this apps work well, including the likes of Google Map because they are blocked by default.

As to copycat, I don't deny. But they made it even better than the originals. Take WeChat as an example, its a lot more sophisticated in terms of feature than WhatsApp which is playing catch up. Simple example like being able to make payment on the chat easily, and the walkie talkie mode actually started from WeChat before WhatsApp got the same feature.

For the record, I am a Singaporean just like you. Just wanted to set the record straight since you mentioned the word "stupid".
