Mate 30 is likely to be using the new OS, given that it will be ready by September and the Mate series is usually launched around October.

Just wonder if huawei phone is stripped of google services and framework, can we still sideload apks into the phones. Eg sideloading youtube gmail, facebook etc. If that is possible, what is there to worry? No playstore, we can still use alternative like Aptoide store.

I prefer that Huawei use their own OS so that they can have better Research & Design with their hardware just like Apple with their iOS. Apple's hardware & iOS is "bond" so closely & easy to troubleshoot if any failure. Even Microsoft now also doing similar concept like their surface product.

Huawei also no need to wait for Google to release their solution e.g. how a foldable screen should do etc, they can have more control how the software should perform.

I don't mind to try out their new OS if they give me the choice to wipe out Android & install their OS. :s13:

I should think Yes.

Even in the old days , one could flash an entire alternate android OS (e.g cyanogenmod) into the PRC phone, and then sideload GGoogle play store & apps.

I believe apps will check the device info when launching. one might force to install it but it may not work optimally. If Google or Facebook really want to block Huawei devices, I doubt apps like Google Maps or Whatsapp will work normally.

The convenience of Gapps are 2nd to none, auto and periodically backup of various user data. I believe msot of us have akready used to Google Maps with routing, Photos, Gmail, Google Search, etc. alternative or web version are available, few offer the same functionality and convenience.

We can only pray Google won't totally block Huawei to prevent retaliation from PRC goverment.

Doesnt make sense for them to block it. Google is a commercial company. It is quite likely they will not be providing the service but unlikely they will spend resources trying to block Huawei from using or sideloading their apps. Too much effort already.

Just like the case where u load apk onto China hardware. China phone may not have those apps but will still allow u to sideload.

The Chinese hand phone makers are banding together to support Huawei's new OS. They are afraid that they will be US' next target companies after Huawei.

I would wait for sometime before jump into it. Otherwise end up like win os phone. The OS is fast, but it die fast too.

When phone is new, you usually don't get much spam advertisment, little junk files and it appears to run faster just like any new Android, Windows etc.

I don't have high hopes for this Huawei OS. It's not easy to make one so they're bound to make mistakes and it will take them a few iterations before it can even become remotely competitive to what iOS and Android can do. If you further burden the Huawei OS with Android compatibility, it will be even more difficult. Good luck.

Huawei’s new OS will be interesting. But most importantly, get ready to lose all your WhatsApp anf stuff. Huawei has been testing their new OS not only on in house Huawei phones but also on other phones like Oppo and Vivo. Through their testing, the OS is seemingly running 60% faster than the current Android 9 Pie. But the main issue with the OS would obviously be Bloatware. The OS is bound to have flaws when it first comes up, and will probably be polished up later on. So yeah........ That’s that.

There's only one way this OS will succeed and that's if other Chinese brands adopt it for the Chinese market. The rest of the world will find no reason as long as Google is doing a good job. In the longer term of the US continues disrupting global patterns using it's economic might, more countries might join in.
