It depends on the window dimension. I remembered paying about 3k+ for my current place (more if there's already existing film you need to remove). If you're staying in condo, please check with your MCST on permissible type as some condo's don't allow very dark ones.

Yes only internal 1 layer. Also most condo's don't allow reflective films, so better check least you have to remove if someone complains.

If using non-branded ones, I strongly recommend to request for a heat lamp test before buying and application. Meaning you check the film at the showroom first, and also before application just to be sure you are getting what you paid for.

It's all about the technology of the film and how much heat is been adsorbed/reflected away.
Try to get the vendor to share these values and you can compare between the brands.
Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER)
Insulating value (U-VALUE) -
SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) and SC (Shading Coefficient)

If they not willing to provide, then you're better off spending a little more money to get confidence that the film you're installing really work.

Wanna share a very bad experience with this window film company Supercool Window Film.

This is 1 company that will provide inferior products, and during installation, will compromise on your family’s safety. Pls read on to understand.

Max came to my place on 15th June. He went through the various window films, and we took the supposing “highest quality” 8000 series. We opt for the darker films for the room, and clear films for the study and living room.


24th June 2021

On 24th June, the installers were 15mins late, but not an issue.

The orders were wrong. They brought the dark ones for the living room, and clear for the bedroom instead. Not a serious mistake. They got it changed and installed.

What’s serious to me is this;

During the installation, they are required to spray soap water on the films. I walk from the living to the bedroom, along the walkway was puddles of soapy water, and I fell. I didn’t make a fuss over it as the fall wasn’t that bad. But when i think back, the person who fall could me my child or my elderly mum that is prone to fracture. What could have happened is unimaginable. In all installation, safety is something that cannot be compromised. But this company, it was taken for granted.
When I feedback to Max, he ask for more info about the incident, and simply say he will look into it. Without an apology. And told me that he deployed the most experienced installers and it’s most unlikely to happen.

The highest quality films on my Windows have oxidised badly. You can see brown patches at the edge of the films, just within 5 days. All areas, in my living, study and bedroom Windows. Pls see photos attached.

Immediately, I send the pics to Max. He say he will arrange and let me know in a few days.

It has been 4 days, and still no answer on when he is replacing these inferior films on my Windows. When asked, he just say he is still checking. I really dunno who he is checking with.

The sputter window film that oxidised within 5 days. And he have the cheek to tell us that the warranty does not cover oxidisation.
If it is oxidised within days, that means the film is already defective when they installed.

10 years warranty? Within 5 days I had a bitter after-taste of the post-sales service and product. Don’t expect any warranty service from this company. Once payment is made, they wont

We are extremely disappointed with the service and product, and will urge others to consider carefully before entering into a contract with them.

Protect our families. I hope they will adhere to safety precautions and not cause anyone slipping from the soapy water that they casually spray on the floor.

There are many others offering better quality window films, with safer installation process.

I asked for quote for 3M prestige. Still waiting for reply from the sales guy. Hope by this week or next week. What is a typical amount I should be expecting for say, a 5-room flat or equivalent?

The Curtain Boutique quoted $22 psf for this solar film.

Hi!

Yes frosted films are allowed in all buildings. BCA rules and laws have no restrictions on these. The only films not allowed on glass windows are the reflective mirror films as it will "shine" on neighbors and affect others. The other exception could be in condos where the management might only allow certain types of films to be installed - such as clear films, color neutral films.

Thus going back to you question, frosted films are allowed in HDB windows.

Yes, BCA requires light reflectivity for window films not to exceed 20%. Otherwise, it is OK to install.

Have not asked for vendor's quotations yet.
