i got many hwz forum thread tabs to open, last time my sp9 the fan will blow hard, sp11 no fan although if the china app weixin video call the fan blow hard. other than that fan never blows
The reason the fan blow hard is because the video is probably running on software encoding/decoding (Window's fault). The hardware codec exists on Snapdragon chip and it is very capable.

Anyone with SP11 or SL7 can report battery life pls?
I'm currently reviewing the SL 2024 Snapdragon X Elite.

Battery life around 12 - 15 hours, easily on the higher side.

As I have tried many Surface products over the years, I was incredibly shocked at the amazing battery life. Their SP line up is usually 6-8 hours in the past, SL is better, but this time it's a HUGE improvement.

Feel free to ask any questions

Please let us know, how is the sleep/standby on the battery life? Eg. when you close the lid, and then open the lid the next 12 hours later, how much battery life is lost?

Also, with heavy duty programs still open, eg web browser, photoshop etc... close the lid, and then reopen the lid after a few hours... does windows wake & resume properly, and how much battery life lost during that sleep?

Overnight 8 hours standby drop 0%

Instant wake even after overnight. It's behaves like a tablet where it can sleep and wake instantly.

That’s great feedback, thx!
Do you find much use for the touch screen at all?

I don't use the touchscreen (for most touchscreen laptops I've tested). I just don't see how the touchscreen can help me save more time or be more productive compared to using the touchpad.

My initial intention of creating this ARM laptop thread is to actually show how bad they are. Well, it turns out to be the opposite.

ARM SOC running Windows is decent, but I feel there are still teething issues to resolve, e.g. compatibility issues, which is probably why adoption is still limited. I think they may need a few generations to iron these out and there's also dependency on Microsoft to provide a more ARM friendly OS.

I am invoved in some Open Source projects (my github ID is "mcuee") which may have issues with ARM64 on Windows.

Here is one example:
https://github.com/pbatard/libwdi/issues/289

The inputs from the Microsoft employee may help shed some lights on the issues. The following link may be of some interests to the user of ARM64 on Windows.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/arm/apps-on-arm-program-compat-troubleshooter

I will for sure skip this generation of CoPilot+ laptops. I have bought one Acer laptop with Intel Core Ultra 125H for my wife early this year. I am looking for another laptop for my daughter who will need to go to secondary school (either AMD or Intel CPU).

So we can probably wait for 2026 when ARM64 on Windows will be better than the current generation. 🤣

Well, Intel won't be ready with their high-NA EUV (Intel 14A) until 2027. This is the generation of Intel fab process that will be competitive with TSMC 2nm.

Hmm, your quoted article about the two Qualcomm Snapdragon X chips mentions that the chips will most likely use TSMC’s 3nm ‘N3P’ node. So I am not so sure why you mention Intel here.

Anyway, Intel 14A may be too late already for Intel to fight back. Intel 18A is rather crucial for Intel to survive first and the got the chance to be on a strong foot again. I do not think they can really be competitive with TSMC any time soon, not in 2027 anyway, most likely not in 2030 either.

I mention 14A because I think the 1st generation of 18A will not beat TSMC. The x86 CPU or SoC also needs more redesigning effort to match ARM.
