interesting diagram they gave :)

aside to that: what did you guys drink over the long weekend? I posted mine earlier.

I had a Rosenvale Estate, Shiraz 2006, from Barossa Valley.
Very nice nose, bursting with cherries. But there is a little too much alcohol heat when i tasted it.... should have chilled it a little before drinking.

BTW, they posted the diagram for the French reds too.

managed to clear a few bottles over the long weekend, got mixed feelings...

2007 Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges La Charmotte - this is a fruit bomb with excessive sweetness (and alcohol heat). not enjoyable at all.

2004 Château Moulin Riche - typical left bank, nice nose and a bit oaky. nothing to shout abt for the taste.

2007 Clos de l'Oratoire - thank god this bottle rescued my long weekend. it is elegant, fruity (not a fruit bomb), and the style is very refined and offerred enough complexity. will go back for more!

Try some back vintage Bordeaux before 2000 or even 80s and I think you should! The mouthfeel is smooth and mellow, often with secondary development of leather, tobacco or even barnyard and dried fruits. The oak will be more integrated and tone down and the tannins much softer than youth.

That's why I love to drink Bordeaux. Plenty of aged Bordeaux available and plenty of opportunity to drink and pick up an aged Bordeaux at reasonable price.

may I ask if the tobacco taste is a hint of Merlot? or not always true?

i don't think that it's exclusively to merlot. i've had lots of other wines that had a tobacco note though.

on a side note, i bought a bottle with my gf on a whim and grabbed any random white wine at Bottles & Bottles at Tampines One last night.

I got the 2008 Carrick Sauvignon Blanc from Central Otago. First off, i've never had a SB from CO, usually they're all from marlborough or martinborough but i was keen to try one from a region that is normally more famous or their pinot noirs. the other thing that caught my eye was that 20% of it was fermented in french barrels so that was interesting to me.

on the nose it was very nice, sauvignon blanc notes but not in the fashion of the harsh marlborough types. very floral, peach fuzz, pears and a touch of grass. The slightest hint of oak was a nice touch.

on the palate, however, was a total disaster. the initial attack was quite pleasant but as it moved to the mid palate and finish, it was clear that this bottle was very off (not spoilt, just off). virtually all the fruit had gone what was left was an astringent liquid with a very bitter finish.

it was a big shame because the mouthfeel was good but the flavours were totally messed up...that's some money gone down the drain. didn't even finish 1 glass.:(

Heh, am the latest to join the Caveau bandwagon!

Bought:
2005 Moulin Riche (half-bottle)
2008 La Grave A Pomerol
(To further my Bordeaux education for St Julien and Pomerol)
2007 Andre Brunel CDR Sommelongue
(Had the 2009 of this CDR before and thought it was decent. At 20 bucks this wine will be good for casual drinking, and maybe some Christmas gifting)
2009 Bott Geyl Gewurz
(I like Gewurz for the Asian food-friendliness, so trying this out at 20 bucks)
Is the Egon Muller Qba a good buy at 53 bones (56 w/gst)? Realise the price for Qba rieslings locally can range from 30 to 60+ bucks, though this is a famour producer.

You should get it. Drinks well now, but one of the few Qba that can hold for a couple more years. I had the 08 vintage twice over 2 years. very nice.

Hi looi, think we tried it when Ikileo bought it during the dim sum tasting at Taka, he used another bottle to contained the wine and if not wrong he decanted it for a short. It was very smooth on the palate

yea, I was going to ask if this was the one we had at Imperial Treasure. It's the same producer if I remember, the wine had a very aromatic nose.

yup dat was the one.

@reign: you should give it a good 8 years from release (so 2008 + 8 = 2015). invest in proper wine storage can? :)

Gonna have crabs at Melben tonight - Milky XO Bee Hoon and Spice-infused butter cream. Will be bringing a Eden Valley riesling, Langmeil Winery's Live Wire, to try. It's a low-alcohol (8.5%), high residual sugar (51g/L) 'semi-sweet' type, bought from Le Vigne.

Bought a bot of 2006 Valdicava BdM from Hermitage Wines on this special day of 11.11.11 :D Will save it for next 2021.11.11 perhaps ;)

On a side note tomorrow's Ch Musar tasting is cancelled although that is what I expected. :(
Looks like I have to buy the wines if I want to taste them.
